Sort Filters - Split / Select only certain values from metafield

Hi All,

We are on Shopify Plus and using the Search and Discover App on Impulse Theme.

We have a Product metafield “category” that I guess is a bit of a catch-all (115 values).

Is there a way that I can split out and create a new filter based on selected values ( ±20) from the Category.metafield ?

Ideas:

  • Could I create a new metafield that will update from the category metafield for certain values?
  • Use Product Tags (well over 5000 values)?
  • or do I need to reconfigure all the products in a different manner?
  • Manually via liquid
