Split Shipment Functionality Is Incorrect

I was over the moon when Shopify recently added the ability to spilt orders. We get tons of orders in that include items that are currently available, and some that are preorders. So to be able to split the orders and fulfill them individually is something I’ve been desperately hoping for for a long time.

The feature as implemented seems to work really well from our perspective, but from the customers perspective it does not. This is as it relates to “ready for pickup” notifications.

If I receive an order for two items, then split the shipment, then fulfill only one of the items, it will email the customer telling them that BOTH items are ready for pickup. It should not work this way, it should only tell the customer that the one item that was split off from the order is ready for pickup.

I’m very grateful this functionality was added but I’m afraid I can’t make full use of it until this is corrected. If anyone from Shopify needs more info on how to recreate this issue I’m happy to help.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi RagtagChris,

Totally understand your concern about the “ready for pickup” notifications - the system should indeed notify customers on the availability of individual items, not the entire order, when they’re split and fulfilled separately. I’ve passed on your feedback to our product team to include this functionality in future updates.

Thanks again!

Thanks Liam! I appreciate it. I have to assume that was the intended functionality so hopefully this will be prioritized highly and fixed soon. Take care.

Any update on this or any known workarounds? We’re experiencing the same issue and need to be able to notify customers which parts of their order are ready for pickup when the order has been split.

Ha well we are approaching a year since this was first reported, and surprising no one, it is not fixed. I would check back in about 5 years to see if there is movement.
