Splitting a product in the backend

Hi

We have a dog bed that we would like splitting into two component SKUs in the backend (the cover and the inner cushion).

The customer sees and purchases the dog bed as the whole product, but on/after purchase, the order is split into the two components (cover and cushion) for our fulfilment house to manage and pick.

Cheapest, simplest solutions if possible! Thank you

Thanks so much for your response. Can you recommend an app that would allow for linking the parent product with its components? There are so many product option/bundling apps available on searching. Many thanks.

You can try the Easify Inventory Sync app to manage your inventory efficiently. Here’s how it works:

  1. In your Shopify backend, create three products: Dog Bed, Cover, and Inner Cushion. The Dog Bed will be the main product visible on your storefront for customers to purchase, while the Cover and Inner Cushion will be hidden products used solely for inventory tracking.

  2. Using the app, set up a Bundle Inventory Group to link the visible Dog Bed with the hidden Cover and Inner Cushion. This way, when a customer purchases a Dog Bed, the app will automatically adjust the inventory for the Cover and Inner Cushion accordingly. For example, if a customer buys 1 Dog Bed, the stock for both the Cover and Inner Cushion will each be reduced by 1, ensuring accurate inventory tracking.

I’m not entirely sure if this setup will fully meet your needs since I don’t have details on how you’re fulfilling orders. However, I recommend giving it a try to see if it works for your specific workflow.

Thanks so much for your response, very helpful. Our products are fulfilled by a fulfilment house, would these hidden components filter through to the order stage to enable them to be able to pick the separate cushion inner and also the cover to send to the customer?
