Splitting in-stock items from pre-orders in inventory

Hi guys

So I have an issue for accounting. We are trying to create a monthly snapshop of inventory.

The issue is this:

We have around 1000 different items in stock in the warehouse, which of course represents a real value. We also have more than 18.000 products available for pre-orders, which is not part of our “real” inventory.

Is there any way we can sort the 2 types of products, so the inventory value is not above 300 million due to it calculates all the pre-order items in the report? I can’t seem to find a real solution to this issue. Sort my tag or collection is not an option.

Do you have a way that you differentiate the actual inventory versus pre-orders, like product type, a tag, metafield, etc?

Yes. All items are tagged and have their own template. Metafield as well for date. But those criterias are bot available as filters in the Shopify reports for some reason.

Correct, Shopify doesn’t allow these fields to be used for filter, sort or segmentation.

Our Report Toaster app can help, as we would automatically allow for tags to be used this way. We could also hook up your metafields for reporting. Feel free to install and reach out to support if interested.

Hello @Sato ,

If you’re still looking for a solution and are open to using a reporting tool, feel free to install Report Pundit. We can generate reports for both normal orders and pre-orders with monthly inventory quantities.

We offer a 14-day free trial, during which we can focus on your specific requirements.

Thanks,
Report Pundit

Hi guys

Can you also make historic screenshots of inventory? Let’s say we need
numbers from 31/12-2023. Is that possible?

Hey @Sato

We are sorry, but Shopify’s API does not provide historical inventory quantity. So, it will not be possible for us to show it as well.

However, as a workaround, we can manually calculate the inventory quantity as of December 31, 2023. This will provide an approximate figure for the inventory on that specific date. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks
