Staff Account Roles and Permissions for Accessing Settings - Customer Accounts - Authentication - Manage

My client is wanting me to enable google and facebook login via customer accounts. Social Sign In it’s called in the documentation: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/customers/customer-accounts/new-customer-accounts/social-sign-in

I have found the area we need to do this by going to Settings - Customer Accounts then under Authentication, there’s a Manage button.

However - this is a store I am the owner of. On the store in question I have a collaborator account and the client has tried all they can to give me permissions, to the point they now say I have all permissions. However, the Manage button for me is greyed on on their store.

I have tried asking the Shopify Support and they’ve basically said they can’t tell me unless the store owner contacts them. So I’m really hoping someone on here can just enlighten me, what permissions specifically do I need to tell me client to give me? Or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I can’t even click the Manage button to get to the other options. I added the screenshot so people could see where I was looking, but on my view, the Manage button is greyed out. I’m fairly sure it’s a permission issue but I need to know what permissions to tick because we just can’t work it out - my client says they’ve ticked everything.

If support has been contacted and they say the owner needs to contact support about that then that’s what needs to happen.

Hi @Pippa-Ridley :waving_hand: take the advice of accounts less than a day old with a grain of salt.

In troubleshooting access/settings, some settings ONLY the owner can control.
Other’s may need an organizational role; but that can have holes too.
Technically with all permissions you should be able to setup the SSO this is shopify we’re talking about :face_exhaling: .

Also there can be a difference between using the merchant support, and partner support.
If you figure out the missing info might want to leave feedback on the partner docs.

Check this and further on roles as some things can only be managed by owner, for others you need a role assigned (if current plan supports it).

Thanks everyone. We’ve still not gotten to the bottom of this, although as I’m not the store owner, there’s just nothing I can do as Shopify won’t speak to me.

Has anyone found any documentation detailing Shopify features and what combination of permissions you need to give people to be able to access the functionality. For example, Markets requires a whole bunch of different permissions, which makes it really hard to ask store owners to give you access to something because it’s not at all obvious how to do that.

What would be great is a big table of all the core functionality and which permissions need ticking.

For this type of thing it probably just needs to be a setup/screenshare session walking the person through things. Never been sure of a good name to pitch this as, it’s not quite a discovery session, but not quite a full setup or such higher fee things either :person_shrugging: .
Which is a bit absurd situation because how many partners doing such things have their own learning curve to handle.

This is the actuality of shopify for decades, documentation is a diaspora, you just have to *know* certain things it’s very annoying especially since sometimes it changes without any headups or notice in any changelog.

Only way to have an update to date table of such things is to bascially have your own store owner account and step through everything. There are now devstores through the dev dashboard but such things cannot ever be counted on having true parity 1:1 with “real” stores.

Corporate abstractions on the marketing thermocline

The reality of ever getting a table of such clear permission requirements is unlikely as such a thing moves towards being a consolidated table of LIMITATIONS for the platform and publicly traded corps just don’t trade in such effort, rigor nor honesty.
But they’ll always get to just say something dismissive like it’s too complex(but isn’t this deterministic??where are all the engineers?? who knows :person_shrugging: ).
Bonus without such things it lets incumbents pull the ladder up, gatekeep or circle wagons, etc etc ad nauseum :alien::eye:⃤:detective:t4::eyes: .
