Still not able to select a default shipping option after 6 years!

Several years ago i contacted shopify support to ask if i could customise the default shipping option my customers were offered.
i was told Shopify always defaults to the cheapest option. That being the case i initially dropped the free pickup option and refunded the fee to click and collect customers. This was a pain so i increased my prices to absorb the shipping and offered shipping for free. This is somewhat unfair as click and collect customers were subsidising delivery costs and those buying multiple items were paying multiple shipping fees. Since shipping prices have gone up i can no longer afford to absorb them so I am now charging for shipping under a threshold price but am regularly having to chase up payment from customers who say they haven’t seen any shipping options at checkout. This is unprofessional and people are rightly sceptical of emails asking for additional payments. If shopify sees itself as a market leader in ecommerce sites surely it can address such a simple issue that has been my biggest bugbear over the last six years. I have had much less sophisticated ecommerce sites in the past that offered this feature.
