Stocky App Transfer Migration

Topic summary

Shopify is migrating stock transfer functionality from the Stocky app to Shopify Admin, removing the critical replenishment feature based on min/max inventory levels. This change is causing significant frustration among merchants who rely on automated stock transfers between locations (e.g., backroom to shop floor).

Key concerns:

  • The new Shopify Admin transfers lack min/max replenishment automation
  • Manual transfer creation via CSV import is too time-consuming for multi-location, multi-daily operations
  • Shop staff lack time/skills to manage spreadsheet-based workflows
  • Timeline for bulk import functionality in Admin remains unclear

Current status:

  • Historical transfers remain viewable in Stocky until June 30, 2025
  • Stocky transfer deprecation date has been pushed back (exact date unspecified)
  • New Admin features include barcode scanning and multiple shipments, but not replenishment automation

Alternative solutions mentioned:

  • Stockie app ($10/month): Sends low stock email notifications but requires manual transfer creation
  • SKUSavvy: Offers batch tracking, returns management, and multi-warehouse support
  • Inventory Planner by Sage: Provides purchasing recommendations and stock redistribution
  • PML Stock Take: Recently launched transfer orders with replenishment limits and auto-generation capabilities

Merchants are actively seeking lightweight, affordable apps that replicate Stocky’s automated replenishment workflow for POS environments.

Super frustrated. The Stocky app is not the best at the best of times, but we are unable to efficiently run POS without it as lack of availability of Bulk PO creation, Stock Transfer and stock take ability in Shopify or POS.

As a way to “improve” the system stock transfers are no longer going to be available in the App and moved to Shopify Admin, but the move is downgrading functionality that currently exists. There will no longer be an option to create a Replenishments based on Min/Max levels.

Does anyone have another app recommendation that can do this? At the moment the only solution is to work out outside of Shopify on excel what needs to be replenished between locations (back room and store front) to create a csv to import into stock transfers with a button that does not yet exist in the system!

I’m also eager to know the answer to this as we rely heavily on the replenish feature to transfer stock between two locations.

A few months ago we tried the Stockie app which can send low stock notifications. I’ll share the notes I made about it at the time, in case it’s useful:

Stockie with an ie ($10/month after free trial)

  • Setup: we input min stock thresholds into a spreadsheet and upload it
  • Low stock notifications come by email on days/times that we schedule. We can schedule notifications for different types of products on different days
  • We receive an email with a spreadsheet of products that have gone below their thresholds, showing quantities in each shop side by side
  • We still need to manually create a transfer & decide how much of each item to send, using the spreadsheet as a guide

Its the manual creation thats the problem for us. We use it for replenishment of back room stock to shop floor. Its very easy for us to do a quick calculation outside of stocky or shopify of what needs replenishment but as it needs to run multiple times a day across multiple stores, we cannot ask the shop staff to be opening up laptops with excel to run the data for what needs to be replenished to shop floor they just do not have the time or skills to do this. Shopify POS is not ideally set up for actual day to day running on shops so the stocky app helped greatly with this.

A little disappointed that this functionality is being removed and cannot even get an answer of when the magic import by bulk button will appear in transfers …or even if it will definitely be there before the stocky functionality is migrated

Hi Emma,

Thank you so much for sharing this, I can sense the frustration here and have seen others echo the same recently.

I’m curious have you tried exploring any of the 3rd party apps for inventory management or stock transfers in the Shopify App Store? I ask because stock management isn’t a new problem, but it seems like many merchants are still struggling to find a lightweight solution that replaces what Stocky used to do.

If you don’t mind sharing:

  • Have you tested any apps so far? If yes, what did you find lacking?

  • Is your priority more about**internal stock transfers (storefront :left_right_arrow: backroom / warehouse)**or vendor purchase orders, or both?

  • Are you mostly using Shopify POS in store or managing from Admin?

  • Are you looking for something affordable/simple, or would a full-featured inventory suite be fine?

I’m asking because I’m researching this space and trying to better understand why this gap still exists. The more feedback I hear from real merchants like you, the better the chance for the community (and maybe app developers!) to address it properly.

Thanks again for raising this!

Yes it is really bad that they want to kill a function that works perfect ( Replenishments ) we need to find a way to stop them from cancelling it, or atleast having it along the shopify system,

Because it will delay us and make us check one by one, and the main reason people use shopify is simplify their work

For those who are reading this wondering what is happening with the Stocky deprecation you can read this guide which covers it in detail as well as this video I put together to understand an alternative. Here is an excerpt of the key changes:

Key Deprecations and Migrations in Stocky (Effective July 7th, with some features moving sooner/later):

Stock Transfers (Creation & Management):

  • What’s Deprecated in Stocky: The ability to create and manage new stock transfers directly within the Stocky app will be removed. Historical transfers will remain in Stocky’s Transfers section until June 30, 2025

  • Where it’s Moving: Stock transfer creation and management are migrating to the Shopify admin

New Features in Shopify Admin Transfers:

  • Multiple shipments for a single transfer

  • Barcode scanning using mobile device camera or connected scanner for adding variants to transfers/shipments and receiving

  • Bulk inventory CSV importing for adding variants.

  • Shipment-level receiving for faster intake

Ineligible Transfers (Won’t Migrate):

  • Transfers with the same origin and destination

  • Transfers with inactive location(s)

  • Transfers without items

  • Line items with a negative quantity

  • Deleted line items within a transfer

  • Line items that were “restocked at origin” within a transfer

Limitations of Shopify Admin Transfers (Replacing Stocky):

  • Replenishments: Admin transfers cannot be created using the replenishment workflow

  • Barcode Printing: Not available directly in Shopify admin transfers (users will need to use the Retail Barcode Labels app)

Minimum and Maximum Inventory Levels:

  • What’s Deprecated in Stocky: The ability to set and manage minimum and maximum inventory levels for forecasting purposes.

  • Where it’s Moving: This functionality will not be available in the Shopify admin transfers. This means the min/max forecasting capabilities previously offered by Stocky will no longer be supported by Shopify’s native transfer features.

What Remains in Stocky:

  • Stocky can still be used to manage Suppliers, Purchase Orders, Stocktakes, and Adjustments.

  • The Shopify POS Stocky extension will be automatically updated.

What Benefits will you Lose

  • Efficient Stock Movement: Without proper transfer management, moving inventory between warehouses or retail locations becomes a manual, error-prone headache, leading to delays and potential stock discrepancies

  • Preventing Stockouts and Overstocking: Min/max levels are fundamental for accurate demand forecasting. Losing this means you’re flying blind, increasing the risk of running out of popular products or tying up capital in excess inventory

  • Streamlined Operations: These features contribute directly to a smooth operational flow. Their deprecation will undoubtedly introduce friction and inefficiencies into your daily inventory tasks

As for alternatives to Stocky many people have chosen SKUSavvy since it has all of what Stocky has for functionality and may very well replace several other apps as well. Hey Emma,

Thank you for working with us on this.

We’ve just launched Transfer orders support in our PML Stock Take (Inventory Count), seamlessly integrated with Shopify Admin & POS! But with replenishment limits and allowing you to automatically generate replens for stores.
We also have even more options for creating your transfer orders, add items from POS, Shopify Admin, import files or have it generated automatically for you!

I’ve got more information about how it works in a little video https://youtu.be/7YDw1BpMlSQ

If anyone needs help moving over from Stocky to the new Transfers, please let me know, here to help

Hey, We also have this problem, we’ve used stocky with the min/max for the past 2.5 years and its really frustrating they are removing such an important feature, I’m trying to use thrive by shopventory on the free trial but its clunky and expensive as we don’t need all the extra features but I’ve just noticed on the stocky homepage they’ve pushed the date back so we can keep using transfers in stocky for now

Hey @Kayleigh,
We’ve added min and max and the ability to generate transfers to our app in Shopify, its all embedded into Shopify Admin and POS so no new tools to learn. I’d love to hear your feedback and anything that is missing for you.
We’ve got a 14 day free trial but happy to extend this for your testing if you need longer

Please let me know if I can help in anyway,
Jordan
