Store Frozen 18+ Days in a month – Billing Loop, No Resolution

Hi,

I’m stuck in a billing loop on Shopify and support hasn’t been able to resolve it. Super frustrated to the core since I havent received any emails for resolution. Tried every possible way to pay the dues but nothing seems to be working. This is affecting my current business and further development with clients reaching out to me asking If I am still in business.

Issue:

  • ~$2 app charge triggering freeze

  • Billing in INR, store currency USD

  • Store country US → can’t change (verification block)

  • Can’t add payment method → can’t clear dues

Result:
Store frozen repeatedly → 18+ days downtime this month

This was escalated once, temporary access was given, but no permanent fix.

Need urgent help with:

  • Manual payment option OR

  • Removing/overriding app charge OR

  • Billing specialist intervention

This is severely impacting my business. Any help or escalation would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is likely not an INR/USD currency issue. It’s usually a failed billing authorization combined with an account verification lock, which keeps the unpaid app invoice open and repeatedly freezes the store.

First, uninstall the app that created the $2 charge so no new charges continue.

Then log in as the store owner (not staff) and go to Admin → Settings → Billing → Past Bills. Pay all open invoices one by one.

If “Add payment method” is blocked, ask Shopify Support for a temporary billing unlock so you can manually update the card. Support can do this internally.

Also request that all previous tickets be merged into one case and escalated to Finance/Billing Ops, not general support.

Send them:
• Store URL
• Invoice IDs
• Screenshot of payment method error
• Last 4 digits of the card
• Mention 18+ days downtime/business impact

Usually once the oldest unpaid invoice is cleared, the store unfreezes first. Country/profile verification can be resolved separately after that.

Thank you Karan for your prompt reply.

I have been in touch with Shopify support consistently for the same. “add payment method” is blocked and they are routing me to my ticket number every single time I reach out for help. In my ticket, I have explained this several times but no one is responding back to it. I feel so helpless and honestly for the amount it is, also feel furious!

there was some fee threshold now, which was successfully paid in all this mess. so it is just that 1 bill of $2 and another fee threshold that remains unpaid now amount totalling to INR Rs 371!

Karan’s steps above are the right technical path. The harder problem you’re describing is that support keeps bouncing you back to an existing ticket that nobody is actually working.

When that happens, stop following up on the old ticket. Open a brand new contact with Shopify Support and in the subject/opening line write: “Billing emergency store frozen 18+ days, existing ticket unresolved, requesting Finance/Billing Ops escalation.” Starting fresh with that framing tends to route you past front-line agents faster than a follow-up on a dead case.

If chat and email keep stalling, escalate via @ShopifySupport on X (Twitter). It sounds informal but their social support team has direct lines to billing specialists and it genuinely moves stuck cases. Send a brief public tweet, then continue in DM. Merchants in billing loops have gotten same-day resolutions this way when tickets sat for weeks.

One more thing, while your store is frozen, your domain is still yours. If you have clients actively checking whether you’re still in business, you can point your domain to a simple holding page outside Shopify temporarily so you at least have something live while this gets resolved.
