Hi team, I bought A domain but it was unfunctioning, so i bought B domain. I thought deleting the domain connection in my shopify domain tab helps but no, although I set B domain as my primary domain now, but it kept on redirecting to A domain. I tried deleting the order, changing the DNS code in A domain provider but nothing helps. It kept on redirecting to A domain. I need help now I cant even preview my website ![]()

It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating issue, but don’t worry—I’ll help you troubleshoot this step by step.
Why this happens
This redirect problem usually occurs because the old domain (A domain) still has DNS settings or redirect rules pointing to your Shopify store, or it hasn’t been completely removed from Shopify’s settings. Even if you’ve deleted the domain from Shopify’s dashboard, it can still linger in the backend or within your DNS provider’s settings.
Steps to Fix It
1-Double-Check Shopify Settings:
- Go to your Shopify admin > Settings > Domains.
- Ensure B domain is set as your Primary Domain. This is essential to make it the one visitors land on.
- Verify that A domain no longer appears in the list of connected domains. If it does, remove it completely.
2-Check DNS Settings for A Domain:
- Log into the domain provider for A domain.
- Look for any DNS records that point to Shopify (like CNAME or A records).
- Remove all Shopify-related DNS entries for A domain. Make sure there are no redirects or connections to Shopify.
3-Clear Browser Cache:
- Sometimes, your browser caches the old domain’s redirection. Clear your cache or try accessing your store in an Incognito window or a different browser.
4-Wait for DNS Changes to Propagate:
- If you’ve recently updated the DNS settings for B domain, it might take some time (up to 24–48 hours) for the changes to fully propagate.
5-Check for URL Redirects in Shopify:
- Go to Online Store > Navigation > URL Redirects in your Shopify admin.
- Look for any redirect rules that might be forcing traffic to A domain and remove them.
6-Contact Shopify Support:
- If the issue persists after trying all the steps above, it might be a backend issue on Shopify’s end. Reach out to Shopify Support and explain the situation. They can check your store’s settings and help resolve any hidden configuration issues.
Here’s a quick visual reference to set up your DNS properly for B domain:
Type Name/Host Target/Value TTL
CNAME www your-shopify-store.myshopify.com Automatic
A [email removed] 23.227.38.65 Automatic
Make sure these settings are correct in B domain’s DNS management.
