Store went inactive for no apparent reason

Topic summary

Multiple merchants report stores suddenly going inactive, making both the storefront and admin inaccessible. This often coincides with events like first payout/plan payment, updating billing information, buying a domain, hitting around $2k in sales, or disputing an unrecognized charge (later found to be a Shopify app fee).

Common responses from support: cases are sent to a “security/review team” for verification, with minimal updates. Reported downtime ranges from 2–3 days to ~3 weeks or even about a month. Some merchants received no clear reason or timeline and couldn’t work on their store during review.

Confirmed resolutions include: verifying legal/business documents and approving a previously disputed bank charge. In these cases, stores were reactivated once verification completed.

Impacts: lost sales, delayed order fulfillment, and frustrated customers due to lack of notice and communication. Several users asked for a phone number or faster escalation, but none was provided in-thread.

Status: ongoing. Some stores were restored after document/charge verification; many remain inactive awaiting review. Key unresolved issues: clearer triggers, proactive notification, ability to continue admin work during review, and firm timelines/SLA.

I am currently having the same issue. It has been 5 days and still surprised that some of the store owner waited 3weeks to be activated AGAIN. I have orders to fulfill and other orders are waiting and really becoming inpatient. I contact Customer Service everyday and have the same answer- will tagging the ticket to escalate. I should receive an email within 24hrs- which is not true. Shopify is abusing customers.
