Store with Memberships and Digital Credits System

I’m looking to set up a store that uses a credits/points system in lieu of a standard cart/checkout. Users would be able to select from recurring monthly membership tiers that allocate a set number of credits each month. Credits would accrue without expiration and be used to purchase digital downloads. Users would need to be able to purchase additional credit packs should they spend their allotment before their monthly renewal date.

Are there any plug-ins or configurations that make this possible?

This seems like a fairly common system implemented on websites with a focus on digital downloads, such as Envato, Adobe Substance Source and iStockPhoto, and I can’t seem to find a solution even remotely close.

Hello @damonray , I don’t see any suitable solution for this request. However you can build a custom website to encounter this type of requests.

I’m also interested in doing something like this but, like you, could not find a suitable solution. Here’s to hoping that something exists :slightly_smiling_face:

This could not be a existing system in Shopify because that would required the removal of current checkout flow.

Which will have major revenue hit for Shopify as we all know Shopify charge some percentage based on plan you choose.

But yes you can achieve this by built custom flow.

We can connect where I can show this custom flow created for my client if interested.

Thanks, yes, I understand it’s not in Shopify’s interest for such a system.

I thought I might be able to find something that automatically generates a gift card each month for each member of the subscription.

I’d be interested in seeing a solution that you have built for a client.

Hi Andyjimmy,

Shopify does now offer Gift Cards as a feature to customers, however as of right now, Gift Cards cannot be generated via the API (automatically) with public apps (public apps meaning apps you install from the Shopify App store). Therefore you would need to build a custom app which will only work for your store.

There is a possibility that this restriction might change in the future.
