A merchant is experiencing customer confusion because sale pricing displays inconsistently across their store. Products show strikethrough pricing and sale badges on collection pages, product detail pages, and cart—but this visual indication disappears at checkout, showing only the final sale price.
The Core Issue:
The merchant uses an app that manipulates “Price” and “Compare at Price” fields to create sales
This method shows strikethrough pricing everywhere except checkout
Conversely, Shopify’s native Discounts app shows strikethrough at checkout but not on collection/product pages
Customers email asking why their discount was “removed,” not realizing they’re still getting the sale price
Current Limitation:
Checkout customization requires Shopify Plus membership. The merchant argues this basic functionality shouldn’t require a premium plan or workaround.
Suggested Solutions:
Community members recommend apps like Adsgun or Yagi Automatic Discount Helper that maintain consistent strikethrough pricing throughout the entire purchase flow
One commenter shares a Shopify Plus-specific solution via 10sq.dev
Status: The merchant has escalated to Shopify support, calling for a platform-level fix to this inconsistency.

Here is a scenario I’m facing (I’m assuming there are many others in the same boat) that is infuriating.
Customers browsing my store can clearly see when and item is on sale, whether it’s on the collection page or the PDP (product details page), as sale items are clearly denoted with badges and strikethrough pricing. The same is true when a product is added to the cart. All shown in the example screenshots below:
The issue is that once the customer proceeds to the checkout, only the sale price is shown. I’ve been getting many emails and inquiries about why the discount is being removed at checkout because it’s not immediately apparent that the customer is in fact getting the sale price, because there is no indication of the sale/discount in the checkout.
To run my sales and promotions I use an app that manipulates the Price and Compare at Price, and so effectively anything that has a HIGHER Compare at Price shows up as on sale.
Here is the crazy thing. If I use the native Shopify Discounts feature and put a product once sale, there is no indication of the sale on the collection page or on the PDP. The discount only show up when the product is added to the cart, AND the discount does show up the checkout. Here is an example:
If you manipulate Price and Compare at Price to create a sale you get all the indications of a sale on the collections, PDP and cart but NOT in the checkout.
If you create a sale using the native Shopify Discounts app, you DO NOT get indications of a sale on the collections and PDP, but you do get indications of a sale in the cart and checkout.
I can’t be the one that thinks this make no sense at all.
I don’t use the native Shopify Discounts app and have no plans on using it. It’s much easier for me to us the app that manipulates the Price and Compare at Price, and I also sometimes change the Price and Compare at Price manually.
How do I get the checkout to show the strikethrough regular price and discount price?
@pcebo - the checkout page is not available for edit if you are not a shopify plus member. Therefore you will need to contact shopify support only and let them know your requirement.
@10SQ my store was on Shopify Plus for a bit and I didn’t have a solution for this implemented, but this is basic fictionality that SHOULD NOT need a solution, let alone one that is available to ONLY Shopify Plus merchants. @Shopify_77 please fix this!
@pcebo Paul I totally understand your frustration - this is actually a really common issue that many merchants face. You’re absolutely right that it creates confusion for customers.
The situation you’re describing happens due to how different pricing methods work:
Compare-at prices are designed primarily for collection/product pages
Native discount codes apply at cart/checkout level
The visual strike-through doesn’t always persist through the entire checkout flow
Your customers are seeing the discount applied (hence the lower total), but without the visual strike-through, they think it was removed - leading to those confused emails and abandoned checkouts.
I’ve seen a lot of merchants dealing with this same challenge. One solution that’s worked well is using Adsgun (Available on Shopify App Store)- it maintains strike-through pricing consistently across all pages including checkout by auto-applying discount codes in a way that keeps the visual pricing clear throughout the entire customer journey.
The app basically ensures what customers see in your ads/emails (e.g. 30% OFF!) matches what they see throughout your entire store. Plus their support team is really responsive if you need help setting it up to match your specific discount structure.
Hope this helps! It’s definitely challenging when customers can’t clearly see their savings all the way through checkout.
