I’m building a new store using Studio theme and am struggling with the number of product variants.
I currently have 2 variants with 4 & 5 options each but need to add a third which would have 28 options taking me well over the 100 variant limit. For context the store will sell rings and my variants are metal (platinum, white gold, yellow gold, rose gold) and diamond size (1ct - 2ct). I need to add the finger size (UK H-Z)
Any advice on how to do this without using an app?
An upcoming update is anticipated to raise the variant limit to 2000. More information is available in the Winter 2024 Editions documentation.
Shopify currently restricts users to 3 options and 100 variants, but this can be circumvented with third-party apps. In case you don’t want to integrate 3rd app. You can split variants into separate products. Another solution is to use metafields and custom code to overcome this restriction.
I understand that your stores require adding products with more than 100 variants, but unfortunately, that is something that Shopify does not support at the moment. But, as @JuneN mentioned Shopify plans to increase the maximum number of variants per product to 2000 as mentioned in their Winter Edition 2024 report.
In the meantime, you can overcome this limitation by grouping similar products either by custom code or through 3rd party app available on the Shopify app store. Implementing this feature with custom code may require hiring a Shopify developer, which can be time-consuming and costly.
However, if you need an immediate solution, you can use third-party Shopify apps such as:
Just in case: If some of these ‘parameters’ do not change price or inventory, then you can use line item properties to collect the data and pass it to cart=> checkout=> order.
