Subject: Critical Improvements Required for Shopify Purchase Orders Before the Stocky Replacement on August 31, 2026 (updated from previous post)

@STRATEGIES I read your July post about the purchase order gaps, the
one with the ten numbered points. I’m not with Shopify and I’m not
selling anything. I’m trying to understand how retailers are actually
coping now that Stocky went dark on 31 August.

You wrote that receiving now takes three to four times longer. On a
normal week at 400 SKUs, what does that add up to in hours — and who
absorbs it, you or your counter staff?

Anything you can tell me is useful. Thanks for writing that post, by
the way. It’s the clearest description of the problem I’ve found
anywhere.

Agree the native PO screen is not Stocky. Your 3–4× receiving note (200–500 SKUs/week, POs of 25–100 lines) and the missing cost write-back match what I’m seeing: Shopify stores one Cost per item, so history dies unless you log it.

Two workarounds that are not “wait for native”:

- **Stockroom - Purchase Orders** (MyWorks) if you want another app. App Store as of 3 Sep 2026 evening: Free, 45 reviews, 5.0. Unlimited POs, partial receive, email PDF. Native vendor file is also PDF — Help Center tonight: More actions → Export PDF; “You can't email a purchase order from your Shopify admin.” You still retype suppliers (Help Center: “Suppliers can't be exported from Stocky”). I am not affiliated.
- **A Sheet you own** if you do not want another app: paste an Orders CSV for reorder qty, emit CSV for the vendor, snapshot unit cost on receive. That last piece is specifically the overwrite problem you described — native will not keep a dated trail for you.

I made the Sheet. $39 one-time, 14-day refund. Not a native fix and not a Stockroom competitor on features — different job. It will raise a 25–100 line PO as CSV. It will **not** match Stocky receiving speed inside admin and it will not scan barcodes. If you need in-admin receiving at 200–500 SKUs/week, Stockroom (Free) or a paid receiving app is the honest recommendation; the Sheet still wins on cost snapshots and vendor CSV.

Either path: export completed Stocky PO reports (CSV), stocktake history, and historical cost this week. Read-only access is “at least 90 days” after 31 Aug — confirm it in your admin. Historical POs still cannot be imported into Shopify.

Putting arithmetic under Teddy_Chang’s point, because a receipt record is not paperwork. It is the input to a number you report on.

Weighted average cost only works per delivery. Say you hold 40 units at $10 and sixty arrive at $12, so the cost afterwards is 1,120 over 100 units, or $11.20. Now split that same order into two shipments, thirty and thirty, with the second at $13 because the supplier repriced in between: costed per delivery you land on $11.50, while taking one figure off the purchase order header, which a single cost column forces you to do, hands you $11.20 and leaves every unit you sell carrying a cost thirty cents light.

Nothing surfaces that. Stock is right, the shelf is right, and margin reads better than it is until somebody reconciles at year end.

So press for a unit cost per receipt, not per order.

Disclosure: I build Binly (Binly ‑ Stocktake & Reorder - Stocky replacement: phone stocktakes, POs & smart reorder | Shopify App Store), which does per-delivery costs and weighted average for exactly this reason.
