Subscription for entire cart / bulid-a-box

Topic summary

A merchant wants to create a pick-and-mix subscription store where customers can browse normally, add multiple products to their cart, then convert the entire cart into a weekly/monthly subscription with a single selection—rather than choosing subscription options for each individual product.

Key requirements include:

  • Standard site navigation (filters, collections, sorting)
  • One-time subscription selection for the entire cart
  • Customer portal for managing subscriptions (pause, cancel, edit box contents)
  • Ability to add/remove items from subscription boxes after setup

Existing solutions fall short:

  • Recharge & Appstle: Allow normal browsing but require per-product subscription selection (too clunky for multiple items)
  • Appstle Build a Box: Offers the desired functionality (add all products, select subscription once) but forces customers onto a separate “build a box” page with limited design flexibility, losing the native theme experience

The merchant is seeking app recommendations or alternative approaches that combine cart-level subscription conversion with native site navigation.

Hello,

I have searched this forum and wider and cannot find an answer to my exact issue.

I am looking to create a sort of pick 'n mix store where customers can ideally navigate through the site as normal (using all the default filters, sorting, view by collection etc.), then add whatever they like to their cart/box as they go, then at the end, choose to receive this box weekly/monthly. Ideally they would be able to log on any time to manage their subscription by pausing, cancelling etc., but also edit their box by removing items, or navigating the site as normal to add items to it.

I have looked at so many different apps including Recharge, Appstle etc., but none of them does it quite how I imagined it. For example, Recharge and Appstle allow the customer to navigate the site as usual, but the customer would have to select their subscription option for every single product, which is a bit clunky if they are selecting lots of individual products. Also, Appstle Build a Box is functionally exactly what I want (customer adds all products to temp box and only selects subscription option once, then adds all to cart once), but the customer has to interact on a ‘build a box’ page which is very limited (I prefer the look and feel of the native navigation of the site in the theme I chose).

Does anyone have a better solution to achieve what I want?

Thanks!

Hi @adambg93

I haven’t seen anyone reply to you yet, so I just wanted to share a suggestion

I’d recommend trying Easify Box Builder.
It works great with many subscription apps, including Appstle, allowing you to create a pick ’n mix style box where customers can freely add products as they browse your store, then subscribe to receive their box weekly or monthly.

It’s also highly customizable — you can keep your store’s native look and navigation, and easily adjust layouts or steps using a drag-and-drop editor. And the app is 100% free now. Here’s how it works:

  • This is the result:

  • This is the app setting:

You can set the box name, choose the box type and template — we offer plenty of templates, and of course, you can edit them freely. You can also sell the products separately outside of this box product.

Then, you will go to the Visual Editor, here you can assign your product and custom every part of your product page

Next, head over to the Discount & Subscription tab, click ‘Edit option’, and set your price rules there.

Then, to turn on the subscription feature, scroll down to the Subscription section, switch the status to Enable, and select your plan.
(It will automatically pull the subscription plans from your connected external app - here I used Appstle)

I hope this answer helps solve your problem!
