We have had a very sudden severe drop in traffic by 50%. Comparing this to 2024 same month and 2023 same month our traffic is down 50% while this should be one of our strongest selling months going into season. Winter season is slow for us and January and February had double the traffic we saw in March. While current political / economic environment may have an impact, I am unable to determine where a 50% traffic drop is coming from. It has recently started crawling back up but still off by 30-40%. Our conversion is higher but clearly sales are down an equivalent of 30-40%. Is there any way I can use analytics and reporting to see where exactly the drop in traffic to my store is coming from? Thanks a lot for your detailed reply and feedback. This is much appreciated. Indeed, came out of nowhere and sales just slumped in parallel to traffic while our conversion rate was actually getting stronger. I am going to take a close look at your notes and start analyzing what you mention. It is indeed purely organic, we do not advertise nor market in any specific way, this was on the calendar for start of this year. So indeed, purely organic and a 50% drop going right into season.

Thank you for the further input and feedback. Very helpful to me. I had someone take a look at this and the response I got back was it could be related to Google Core Updates. I kind of feel like it was a simple reply to a situation that could have a lot more going on. We had our website updated in November, traffic November was solid, December solid, Jan + Feb solid and suddenly it took a 50% slump right at start of season. Literally one day to the next. It has now gained back 50% but this means we are still off 50%. The person that was managing our site is no longer in the company and I fear it could be related to something this person may have intentionally done, just haven’t been able to detect anything. Your notes above may help in all this. I just figured an expert should be able to get to the bottom of a situation like this, pin point exactly where the drop is coming from, what is causing it? It hasn’t happened in 5 years, now suddenly??

If you have Google Search Console or Google Analytics installed, those should have page-level data for you. That data should also be available in Shopify Analytics, but may be a little tougher to extract (although try asking Sidekick! ).
