Suggestions for apps to scaffold a print-on-demand store

I am looking for advice on what apps might help me to create a store that offers custom printing services. I do not need a Print-on-Demand app or service, I merely need a storefront for selling wholesale print services. No inventory management, but complex product options combinations and wholesale pricing, and custom product quantities are a must.

I need to customize product options for each product (i.e. business cards, bookmarks, posters, etc.) to handle conditional combinations and up-charges. Because it’s a wholesale business, we need to apply a sort of volume pricing to ensure the more you buy, the cheaper each unit. Additionally, different products need to have their own set quantity minimums/maximums/increments, which I initially attempted to customize with hard-coded liquid on the product template.

I have prototyped the store using Globo Product Options and Bundler to handle options and volume discounts respectively, but so far each has limitations that appear mirrored in each of their competitor apps. Product quantity customization seems to complicate the current app combination I’ve selected, especially with how price is displayed (and calculated) on the product page, but also when customizing how customers can change quantity from the cart page. All volume pricing apps I have explored lack a simple total price & price per unit block option for the product page and instead prioritize upsell-oriented price tier displays.

I have been able to reduce some complexity of options with our current prototype but would switch apps if it meant the additional options line items (for “add-on product” up-charges) played nice when having wholesale pricing recalculated when quantity is changed. The timeline on the current project doesn’t permit custom development, so I’m looking to scaffold together a few out-of-the-box solutions for each aspect of the use case. Any suggestions or ideas about how to accomplish this would be valuable.

Thanks in advance for any contributions to help me on my quest!

Hey there,

This is a common challenge when trying to combine very specific product option requirements with complex pricing logic on Shopify without custom development. Globo and Bundler are decent, but they often struggle to play nice when you push the boundaries, especially with dynamic price updates.

The core issue is that product options apps typically add line-item properties, while volume pricing apps often modify the base price or apply cart discounts, and getting them to update a “total price & price per unit” block dynamically on the product page is tricky. Most apps default to showing pricing tiers rather than the calculated current price based on selected options and quantity.

I’d suggest looking into a more consolidated solution, or at least apps from the same developer ecosystem, to minimize integration headaches.

Alternatively, consider a dedicated wholesale pricing app that also includes robust product option capabilities. Apps like Wholesale Pricing Discount are built for this kind of B2B scenario. They often have features for volume discounts, min/max quantities per product, and sometimes even custom options built-in or better integrations with specific options apps. They might have a more appropriate pricing display for wholesale.

The “price per unit” display is the hardest part without any custom code. Many apps calculate it but displaying it dynamically on the product page as a simple total and per-unit price, reacting to both option selections and quantity changes, often requires tapping into the app’s JS API or making some theme adjustments. If “no custom development” is a strict hard rule, you might need to lean heavily on the app’s default widget, which may not be exactly what you envisioned.

Hope any of that helps!

P.S. I’m building a gamified discount app called Game Gophers. Looking for beta testers if you’re interested.

Many thanks for the thoughtful response! You’ve confirmed my suspicions and given me a few other things to think about. I really appreciate it.

P.S. You had me at Gophers!

Hi @UncleBabyKern :raising_hands:

Based on everything you described - complex product option combinations, conditional logic, option-based, up-charges, wholesale tiered pricing, product-specific quantity rules, and the need for clear, accurate price display - Easify Product Options can fully support your entire workflow without requiring any Liquid coding or stacking multiple apps together.

  • This is the result:

You can easily handle your complex customization requirements by creating separate Option Sets for each product type (business cards, posters, bookmarks, etc.). Each Option Set supports full Conditional Logic, allowing you to build multi-layered option flows and apply precise up-charges based on the customer’s selections.

If you need to add extra fees per option or per quantity, simply enter the amount directly into the Price field. Easify will automatically calculate and display all costs clearly on the product page, ensuring accurate pricing and eliminating the display issues you’ve run into with other apps.

Next, for your wholesale requirements such as min/max quantity or quantity increments per product, Easify provides the “Limit quantity input” and “Set quantity selector increments” features. These let you control the minimum order, maximum order, and quantity step values for each print product individually, giving you precise and flexible quantity rules without any custom coding.

Finally, if you need to combine product options with tiered pricing, Easify includes a built-in Tiered Discounts feature in the Settings. This allows you to apply a “the more you buy, the cheaper it gets” pricing model while still working seamlessly with your add-on options and quantity rules. You simply go to Easify => Settings => Advanced Settings => Tiered Pricing and enable the feature.

After enabling it, you can create tiered pricing rules just like in the example: choose the Option Set you want to apply the discount to, then define the quantity range, discount type, and discount amount. For instance, you might set a rule such as “1–5 units = 10% off per item.” You can add as many additional ranges as you need using the Add range button.

All discounts are applied dynamically based on the customer’s selected quantity—no coding required.

Easify offers a clean, intuitive interface that makes customizing products effortless. The support team is always there to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Wow! I appreciate you going into such detail about how I could utilize Easify for our print shop.

I’ll admit that I had started creating a demo product with Easify and completely missed the Tiered Pricing feature toggle, so I had considered it a “missing” feature. Your reply challenges me to get a bit more specific about our requirements and I have a few questions about specific features that I’m still unsure about if you could comment on them:

  • I see that the Tiered Pricing feature would likely fit my needs, however I am still unsure if the tiered price display can be customized to be more subtle–ideally it’s visibly hidden. On first glance, the display of tiered pricing appears limited to a table display–but we need ~25 tiers per product (some shared), give or take, and so the tier display is best hidden with the calculation reflected in the live price on the product page. Can the price tier display be subdued or customized to be hidden?

  • As I mentioned in the former question, we need to display the price per item as well as the total price on the product page, which I could not see a clear way to configure with Easify. Is this possible, and if so, could you breakdown how I would accomplish this?

  • On the note of setting product quantity limits, I left out that our ideal quantity input is a dropdown with some ~30 preset quantity values, as we need fine control of the quantities per product instead of merely offering one step or increment between qty options. Most products will be offered in quantities like, for example: 25,50,75,100,150,200,250,500,1000,2000,2500,3000,4000,5000,10000,20000,…,100000. Because the step is not consistently 25 after the first few increments, most product options apps’ quantity input elements have not met our needs without some level of custom development. Could Easify offer us this functionality?

I am close to meeting all of my requirements and then some with another app (CPB Custom Product Builder), but currently the quantity input select element and the live calculation display of price per item & total price are similarly hitting the limits of what the app does to meet our use case as-is. If these are not features already manageable via Easify, could any of these needs be met by future feature development?

Thank you again for reaching out and providing guidance to apply Easify to meet my use case! You’ve given me an opportunity to refine my requirements once more and I hope that others can benefit from your reply as well.

Disclosure: I work on Fancy Product Designer (Chamevo).

For the product customization layer, FPD covers several of your requirements:

  • Conditional logic (show/hide options based on selections)
  • Conditional and dynamic pricing (up-charges per option)
  • Text, image upload, and design selection with live preview
  • Print-ready output with color profiles

Our POD merchants particularly value the print-ready output – one customer running a wholesale print shop told us it eliminated their manual file-prep step entirely, saving hours per week.

For tiered/quantity pricing, you’d likely need to pair it with a quantity breaks app. FPD handles per-item customization pricing, but bulk discounts are a separate concern. For fulfillment routing, FPD generates the files and you route them however your print workflow needs.

I appreciate your reply and I imagine FPD will help others with similar use cases. That said, I have proceeded with another app and will be sharing that solution shortly.

As I explored solutions offered here and beyond I proceeded with CPB Custom Product Builder and have met the majority, if not all of the requirements, that I’ve mentioned throughout this thread. Not only did it offer deep customization of the product options with complex conditional logic and a path towards manage tiered pricing (through custom price calculators using opencalc syntax), but I was also able to receive help from their support/dev team creating custom liquid and javascript utilizing their API to provide a realtime calculation breakdown of the price per item with the custom quantity option that we needed to offer (for a nominal fee).

I should say that our project has depended on an unconventional and inconsistent price list, and it therefore required a great deal of flexibility in the customization for managing price options combinations in addition to the predetermined quantity offerings and bulk discounts.

CPB has been able to, with some tradeoffs, allow us to configure interdependent product options to set price formulas that adequately align with our price sheets for different options combinations with varying tiered discounts for a large range of quantities all within a single app.

I don’t think CPB is going to meet everyone’s needs, but it met ours sufficiently. Thanks to all that contributed to this thread. I hope it helps many more than just my team. :green_heart:

If the current personalization app has an api(non Oauth) and you need a glue app to polished parts of the process look at lightwards mechanic app ; it’s more advanced than shopif flow and mechanic has a pay-what-feels-good pricing policy if you contact them about directly. Can beat having to stand up middleware to finish the last mile.
