Support Mollie as a payment gateway for subscriptions (native Shopify Checkout)

Problem

Subscriptions on Shopify currently require Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal Express or Authorize.net for auto-charging. Mollie — a leading European PSP (iDEAL, Bancontact, SEPA, cards) — is not supported for recurring billing in the native checkout. For EU merchants (Benelux especially) who run a strongly negotiated Mollie contract, this forces an impossible choice: keep Mollie for one-time orders and lose clean subscriptions, or move everything to Shopify Payments at a significantly higher rate.

Why this is very achievable

Recharge — the leading subscription app on Shopify — has been an official Mollie partner since April 2022. Their partnership already enables Mollie-powered recurring payments through Recharge’s API on Magento, WooCommerce and headless/standalone webshops. The integration exists and is in production; it is simply not available inside the native Shopify Checkout : Recharge partners with Mollie to offer a best-in-class subscription solution | Recharge Extending it to Shopify would mostly be a matter of opening the existing Recharge–Mollie pipe to the native checkout, not building from scratch.

What we’re asking for

  • Allow Mollie as an eligible gateway for subscription / auto-charging in the native Shopify Checkout, at minimum via the Recharge–Mollie integration that already exists elsewhere.
  • Support SEPA Direct Debit mandates (iDEAL/Bancontact as the first payment) for recurring billing — the European standard for subscriptions.

Impact

This would let EU merchants keep their existing Mollie pricing AND offer proper auto-charging subscriptions. It removes a real blocker for European DTC brands migrating from WooCommerce/Magento to Shopify.

The building blocks (Recharge + Mollie partnership, Mollie’s Recurring/Subscriptions API, SEPA mandates) are all already live. We’re asking Shopify to connect them to the native checkout.

They are all available with Stripe and one integration is enough.
