Syncing orders, products and inventory stock levels with third party fulfillment partner

Hello Shopify hive mind,

We are in the process of changing our business model and a partner fulfilment service will be holding our stock and dispatching our orders on our behalf. We will take payment through our Shopify website, and manage all other aspects of the customer journey, but the warehouse will hold our stock and manage (dispatch) the orders. We will also be selling products they hold that we don’t currently list on our website.

Through the admin store API, is it possible to…

  1. Import their product listings into our catalogue (periodically with any additions or changes to a certain catalogue)

  2. Sync / import their inventory stock levels so that if stock runs out and shows on our storefront

  3. Once order has been dispatched by third party, update the order status for automated customer notifications.

Or will we have to develop a custom app or hire an expert to ensure data between both companies and software API can work together?

I hope this makes sense, I’m relatively new to the Shopify system.

Any help or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @dmacknzie ,

Is your partner on Shopify (another store) or are they integrated with Shopify in some way already? If so, you can easily setup order routing using Order Fulfillment Guru without custom development. For example, if the partner is another Shopify store, you can sync inventory, adjust price as necessary, and sync specific attributes. If you have more than 1 partner, you can route specific products or orders (i.e. shipping address) to a partner or yourself.
