System where customers can request to receive a sample of our product

Background: We sell made-to-order jewelry domestically and internationally through our website, which is available in both Japanese and English.

Desired action: We would like to create a system where customers can request to receive a sample of our product before making a purchase, and then return the sample to us. There will be no charge for the sample, but the customer will be responsible for paying the shipping fee. It would be ideal if the system could be available in both Japanese and English.

Question: Are there any default features or apps that would enable us to implement this system? If not, what steps should we take to make it possible?

Simplest is to just setup a free product and a custom shipping profile for that product and some shopify-flow automations to tag the customer & order etc for internal tracking,etc.

Tools like mechanic can be script for more advanced specific scenarios , example task of a sample-credit system: https://tasks.mechanic.dev/credit-customers-for-sample-orders

Without a published product, you can do this through customizing a contact form with different input, getting a mail from that custom contact form, then staff create a draft order that is then sent to the requester.
