Tag Based Filtering - Hiding Unavailable Variants

Topic summary

Main issue: On the Empire 7.0.1 theme, tag-based filters on the collection page show many greyed-out (unavailable) options. The request is to hide options with zero available results across all filters (e.g., Brand, Category), and to sort filter values alphabetically.

Technical context: Filters are the standard theme filters (not an app). The store is built around tags; Faceted Filtering was tested but the same visibility issue persists, so the preference is to keep tag-based filtering.

Evidence: A screenshot of the Riding Gear collection filtered by the “100%” brand shows only “Goggles” selectable while other categories are greyed out. The image is central to understanding the desired behavior (hide zero-result options).

Updates: A helper requested a preview link and confirmation of the filter source. The OP provided the collection URL (bentlever.com/collections/riding-gear) and confirmed use of the theme’s default filters.

Status: Another participant reported the same problem on Empire. No solution or code provided yet; guidance on hiding unavailable options and enabling alphabetical sorting is still pending. Discussion remains open.

Hello Everyone. I need assistance with my filtering. The theme is Empire 7.0.1.

We are using tag-based filtering on our site and need to find out how to hide the unavailable selections.

In the screenshot provided, it will show a great example. In the example, we are in the entire 'Riding Gear" collection. I have selected the brand 100% from the brand filter that only produces goggles. Under the category, you can see “Goggles” are available to be selected while every other option is greyed-out.

We need all of these greyed-out options to not be visible and to only display the selectable options. This needs to apply to every filter, not just category and brand.

Is this something I can fix with code? I am barely familiar with it but the concept of “if grey/0 available → no show” sounds simple but if it was, guess I wouldn’t be having this issue.

A big bonus for this would be if the filter selections could be alphabetically sorted as well.

I still have this issue when trying out Faceted Filtering, and with our site/products being built around tags, id like to keep it.

Thank you for any help. PM me or reply here.

Hi @Logan102
Awesome to see you around,

Can you share a preview link of the collection page where this happens?
Can you also confirm the filtering you’re using is the original from the theme or is it an app?

Cheers!

Hello.

Here is the link to the main collection page. This will have the most variants in the filters

https://bentlever.com/collections/riding-gear

And yes, these are the standard filters from the theme.

I need help for this same issue for Empire theme
