Takedown Request notice from the Canadian Competition Bureau

Topic summary

Shopify forwarded a Takedown Request notice from the Canadian Competition Bureau regarding the store, dated Dec 16, 2025. The merchant must reply within 2 business days with corrective action or risk the account being taken offline; Shopify recommends contacting the regulator and notes they cannot provide legal advice.

The store owner has been operating for 3 years, already responded to Shopify, and is concerned. They report a few customer complaints behind the notice, which they believe are mostly incorrect, and state a chargeback rate under 1% (chargebacks are transactions reversed by the cardholder).

A participant advises verifying the sender email to rule out a scam. The owner confirms the email is from Shopify.

No specific corrective actions or regulator guidance have been shared. Key open points: what issues the Bureau flagged and what steps will satisfy Shopify/regulator. The thread remains unresolved and ongoing.

Has anyone been hit with this before? I already responded back but i am abit worried. I have been running my business for 3 years.

its from shopify. apparently there were few customer complaints but most are incorrect. Should i be worried? I have a charge back rate less than 1%

Don’t panic, but do take it seriously and act fast.
What you described is not uncommon and doesn’t automatically mean Shopify will shut you down, especially with a <1% chargeback rate.
