Tax overrides on collections (where products are part of multiple colleections)

Hello -

I have products that members of multiple collections. One collection is called “samples” whereby the customer can purchase a sample of the product and in those instances I do not want to collect taxes. However, I have found that if I include the “samples” collection in my store’s tax override settings, then ANY purchase of those products, regardless of whether they are purchased as a sample or not, is not charged tax.

Is there any way to configure Shopify to not charge tax if the product is ordered as a SAMPLE and not as a regular, non-sample order?

Hello, maybe as a preorder product, that would avoid any tax before sale but it’s often a custom tag. You could implement it as a metafield tag too. It works well.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I am uncertain how to implement what you have described. Even if I tag the product, how do I configure checkout to not apply tax when that tag is associated with that particular order?
