Well, Shopify has updated the tax system on our store to the new “improved” tax system. When they migrated, without warning, they neglected to tell us that the new system would completely hose the POS. Now, it and manually added admin orders, are not applying taxes at all for items that USED to not have a Product Category even though we have updated every item in our store to have a taxable product category since. The POS will flash the correct tax rate then zero it out.
Net of this? Thousands of dollars of uncaptured taxes at our retail store this weekend which we will be liable for. Can I get an actual response from someone on the team who hosed this up? No, just “talk to your tax professional” about categorizing correctly. Or “tax is just estimated, it’ll be different when actually applied”.
Now the advisor is telling me what the advisor said yesterday. “The tax team is checking it out. You’ll receive a ticket after our interaction” No ticket and no word after our interaction ended. Is it that hard to get someone who can help in a situation that is critical?
And now, apparantly, they will not charge tax if “Shipping is required” is unchecked for the product. It makes no sense for a brick and mortar and items like cocktails. Not to mention this change was not announced to us. Are you going to ship a sandwich and soda at a cafe?? We will be leaving Shopify.
