Test mode payment some transactions went through

I have created my store about a year, received some orders through Paypal and Apple Pay, for those payments checkout by Apple Pay, I could not see any payouts and I thought it was held by Shopify as I have not submit my business registration on my account. But last couple of months, I have 2 customers message me that if my store is live or not as they could not checkout, I chat with Shopify and they are saying that my store is in test mode, so customers were not charged for those orders. AND they are saying under test mode Apple Pay could go through, but credit/debit wouldn’t.

My question is how come previous orders could go through using credit card by my customers, is it because of Paypal gateway, Test mode not working for Paypal.

My 2nd question is how come lately my customers could not check out? shopify replied due to test mode BUT I could receive orders in last year. That is strange

Thank you for reaching out and posting this question.

If the orders were processed through test mode, then it will say test mode on the order in the Shopify admin. While PayPal does have a test mode, this isn’t something that you can enable through Shopify so we’d recommend getting in touch with PayPal to learn more about their test mode feature. That being said, when test mode is on for Shopify Payments, actual credit cards will not be accepted so that’s likely what the customers were reporting.
