So today I decided to say whatever and update my Thank You page since Shopify is forcing all of us to move, probably another way to push more users to higher tiers, but whatever.
What gets me fairly upset is the Google Customer Reviews, by design, is a pop-up that Google generates with code which will now be removed. However - with the screen shot I attached here it appears shopify has a workaround to this which is a block placed on the thank you page. Now this is intriguing, however does not work when tested and never shows. (placed a test checkout and nothing appeared).
So - can someone please tell me how to get this thing to work? There is also this pesky red message that keeps popping up with links that go nowhere. The silly AI bot they added is of no use as well. Can someone help me get this to work?
This is most likely due to Shopify’s new Thank You/Order Status pages. The old Google Customer Reviews opt-in relied on custom scripts, which are no longer supported with Checkout Extensibility.
At the moment, there isn’t a native workaround on non-Plus stores, so you’ll need to wait for an updated integration from Google or use an alternative review solution.
Anyone else this is just a re-iteration of something we all know from an app store company. Can anyone provide solutions to this google block not working, workarounds in general, or something similar?
Currently there is no solution. I have created a video about this, on how to add it, and do get comments that it doesn’t work.
The issue is that google will blame shopify, and shopify will blame Google. So you really don’t get a solution.
I recommend using the an app such as: easy Google Customer Reviews - Collect Google Customer Reviews on checkout extensibility | Shopify App Store
They claim it works.
Hello
,
The screenshot suggests the block isn’t actually configured yet. The red message indicates that the Google Customer Reviews survey extension still needs to be set up in Google Merchant Center, and the Shopify block alone won’t make the popup appear. I’d also add an estimated delivery time and test with a real order, as many test checkouts don’t trigger the survey opt-in.
The testing did not yield anything for reviews.
Not looking to pay for an application to do something that was traditionally free. You are a prominent influencer on the web. Can’t you use your influence to get Shopify and Google working together on this?
The problem is free. When something is free, then whoever built it, will most likely not care as much.
Ever since the existence of the Google and YouTube apps, it has been a buggy mess. Years and years. Thousands of merchants complain.
So here is how I recommend you think about it, a multi billion dollar Shopify business, changes the checkout so popups won’t work anymore for security reasons.
Another multi billion dollar Google business, took them 1.5 years to create a function as you showed in your screenshot, and doesn’t even work.
What is a person like me, able to do about this? Google doesn’t care about me.
I don’t have the ability to spread my influence on everything. Sometimes I can get things changed, but that takes years of back and forth. I don’t have the energy to do that for everything.
The way I work is finding solutions to problems, merchants that hire me, hire me because loosing out is costing more money, so I find alternative ways to achieve the same end result, even if it costs money. In the end, the merchant gets what they want, and enjoy better performance.
I don’t want to sound harsh, but if you want something free, I recommend you use Claude AI, and build your own private app. Nowadays, anyone can build anything.
So can you elaborate on number 2? When I click on manage app - it just sends me to the general Google and Youtube application homepage in Shopify. There I see my Merchant Center account and Google Ads account. It is not taking me anywhere specifically for that app as you referred.
Pictures would be helpful and please.

@RyanAnderson The reason the other persons reply is confusing, is because it’s an AI response.
The details this person shared is outdated, and no longer valid.
@websensepro I understand the usage of AI, but you might find it more beneficial long-term to avoid using AI.
Reddit, is already building solutions to mark AI responses as spam. More platforms will follow.
Yes I figured as much I actually copy pasted it into AI to run a test to see if it was AI the other day and it came back with a yes.
I wanted to see if he or she would actually respond as a human if I pressed but I guess not.
As of 7/9/2026 there is still not solution to this problem nor can anyone seem to offer one aside from paying for an application.
@Ros222 yes had tried all those things. Very disappointing this entire situation as reviews are such an integral part of the buyer journey and decision making today.

I hope Shopify sees this and how unhappy this is making everyone.
