Hi,
I will really appreciate if you could point out pros and cons of both. I am stuck in choosing Ella from themeforest or Enterprise/Impulse/Athens from Shopify store. Also what does website developer offer when they pitch you store creation. Like if we have a theme then its all upto us how to design that , then what do they do for which they charge so much ?
Topic summary
Choice between a ThemeForest theme (Ella) and Shopify Theme Store themes (Enterprise, Impulse, Athens), plus what value developers provide and why they charge.
Key points raised:
- ThemeForest: cheaper but often similar in layout, can feel clunky and reminiscent of Magento/WooCommerce. Perceived lower polish/quality.
- Shopify Theme Store: higher quality and performance; considered worth the extra cost.
Implementation and hiring:
- For targeted changes, hiring via freelancer.com can keep customization costs manageable with payment control (negotiated rates, release on approval).
- Caution against agencies pitching turnkey “store creation”; building a store’s structure and style is complex, and oversimplified offers may be risky.
What developers do: customize themes, adapt design, and implement required functionality beyond default theme settings—work that can be substantial despite starting from a theme.
Status: Only one user’s experience provided; no consensus or final resolution. The decision remains open based on budget, quality expectations, and willingness to manage custom work.
Um, it’s really up to you. My experience is that the themes on Theme Forrest all look the same in terms of layout and style. They just feel clunky and remind me of Magento or WooCommerce. They are much cheaper, but they also look and feel that way. It’s worth the money on the Shopify Theme Store as they are genuinely the best you can buy.
I use freelancer.com for my customizations and modifications. I am able to negotiate an affordable rate to get my work done and you have control before releasing the money. In terms of someone pitching store creation - I would run not walk away from that. Creating your store and style is very, very involved regardless of what YouTube “experts” tell you. It matters.
