The concept of "shopify expert" is a joke

As the title says it. I posted a “job” earlier today and I have gotten 5 og 6 replies from different experts.

The “job” is: create a fully functioning “Coming Soon” button for products that have been tagged with “soon”.

Now to the ridiculous part (grab your popcorn!)

Here were the offers:

$80 USD

$50 USD

$40 USD

$40-$80 USD for a button? I can buy a whole new theme for $80 USD!

The Shopify Theme Support team offers a 1-hour free Theme Support help for what? To customize your theme. Something you can do yourself and requires no skills whatsoever. Does the status “Shopify Expert” mean “I will charge you $100 USD for a feature that takes 5 minutes to create with little to no skills?” It looks like it.

And this forum… where do I even begin. There are some great and helpful people here but there most definitely are some frustrating people here who think this is Stackoverflow and that they can spread their toxicity here as well as they do on Stackoverflow.

I have gotten plenty of help from a few people here, but to be honest it’s mostly just CSS because I was trying to learn how Shopify themes work.

Take all this however you want to take, I really don’t care. Won’t come on this forum again.

Programming is a skill and skills need to be paid for if you want someone to do it for you. If you like you can enroll at your local college and get a computer science degree, ensuring there’s at least a few classes covering OOP, and you’ll be able to tackle it yourself in 4 years. Or you can pay people for their work, just as you expect your customers to pay for yours.
