The Google & YouTube App is firing two identical 'Purchase' tags to different URLs - Why?

Hello Community,

I’m facing a critical problem with conversion measurement that seems to be caused by the official Google & YouTube app. I’m hoping someone here has a solution or explanation.

The Problem:

For a single purchase event on my checkout page, the Google Tag Assistant is firing two identical tags named “Google Shopping App Purchase”. Conversions are not being recorded in Google Ads at all, which I believe is due to this duplication.

The most important technical detail is that the two tags are sent to different URLs.

  • Tag 1 is sent to ...googleadservices.com/pagead/...
  • Tag 2 is sent to ...googleadservices.com/ccm/...

Both tags have the same conversion ID and conversion value.

Steps Taken So Far:

  • I have confirmed that only the official Google & YouTube app is connected.

My Question to the Community:

Is this standard behavior or a bug? Because so far I dont get conversions in google ads.

Thank you so much!

One for Google Ads

One for Youtube

The reason you have no conversions, is not related to the double tag, as everyone has this.

I recommend that you perform a test purchase, click on your own ad, then make a purchase, wait 24 hours, it should show in Google Ads.

Thank you for the clarification. The explanation regarding the two tags makes perfect sense.

However, I’m still facing an issue where conversion data for events like “purchase” and “begin checkout” are not flowing into Google Ads, even though page views are being tracked successfully. This suggests the connection is only partially working.

I’m now disconnecting and reconnecting the Shopify app with google ads to see it this does anything. I’ve read here in this forum that this solution worked for some people who had double tags active and after deleting one, they still didnt got the value.

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, what should I check next? The Google Tag Assistant is showing two positive tags hits for purchases with correct currency and values. So I already checked that in this level, a couple of times actually. But the data never was shown in google ads. I’m really out of ideas afterwards what I can do I already write both supports and they say everything looks fine. Maybe I need to hire a professional?

I wanted to add that even though no purchase or checkout conversions were showing up in Google Ads, the data was still being sent. Under Tools → Data Manager → Google Tag activity statistics, I could see hits with parameters like currency, ecomm_pagetype, ecomm_prodid, and ecomm_totalvalue. So the Shopify integration was firing events and passing values.

If you want to test, the only way is to make a test purchase.

Otherwise, wait until you get a sale.

Hi Hopperkuh,

Have you considered using a dedicated conversion tracking app to resolve this issue?

One way to completely avoid this issue is to use a dedicated conversion tracking app that ensures only one, clean purchase event is sent to Google Ads every time. Our AdNabu Conversion Tracking app for Shopify is built for exactly this:

  • Sends a single, accurate purchase event per transaction (no duplicates).

  • Uses server-side tracking for better reliability and fewer data losses.

  • Matches conversions directly to your Google Ads campaigns for accurate ROAS reporting.

I can confirm this. Google & Youtube App is firing two identical tags (one in head, one in body), causing delay and extra load in page loading speed. It’s an obivous bug and should be fixed asap.
