The importance of Metafields and ALT tags in SEO

Topic summary

A greetings card seller is struggling with website traffic and sales despite good SEO health scores from Semrush. Their unique selling point is cards that don’t require separate envelopes.

Key concerns:

  • Whether to invest time adding ALT tags to 300+ product images
  • Understanding and implementing Metafields properly
  • Uncertainty about ROI given the bulk editing challenge

Response highlights:
One commenter emphasizes that metafields and alt tags are critical SEO elements that can provide competitive advantage. They note that as core web vitals become standardized across competitors, these “micro-elements” often determine ranking differences. Poor or keyword-stuffed alt text can reduce both click-through rates and image search visibility.

Hi, I’m really struggling to get views and sales on our website even though Semrush is showing good health. We sell greetings cards which is obviously a very saturated market but our cards are unique in that they don’t need a separate envelope, so we have a clear USP. I know that two areas that I could improve on are 1) adding ALT tags to all of my product photos and 2) understanding Metafields more. However, I don’t want to undertake huge tasks if they won’t have much of an impact - we have over 300 cards and it’s difficult to bulk edit ALT tags.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Metafields and alt tags may live behind the scenes of a webpage, but they pull a disproportionate amount of weight in search engine optimization. Because core web vitals are increasingly equal among competitors, these micro‑elements often tip the scale. social media promotion company kochi Pages lacking clear meta fields or stuffed‑keyword/sloppy alt text tend to suffer lower click‑throughs and image visibility, leaving easy rankings on the table.
