Guy, the changes to Product Creation and editing update is terrible. Assuming each item has a variant is making the process of creating or editing a single item soooooooooo frustrating. There are so many more steps you have to do in order to get anywhere. I should be able to add a barcode on the main page without going to a sub category when making an item. I then have to do the same to add a picture. Surely most stores sell just single items and not variants?
Hi @James_Jagic Completely agree — the new product editor added a lot of unnecessary steps for simple single-variant products.
One thing that helps: if your product has no real variants, make sure you’re not accidentally leaving the default “Title” variant in place. Delete it and Shopify will treat it as a single product, which simplifies the editing view a bit.
For barcode and images specifically — they’re still accessible on the main product page, but you have to scroll past the variant section to find them, which isn’t obvious at first.
Best thing to do is submit feedback directly via the Shopify admin (Help → Share feedback) — they do track volume on these complaints and it’s one of the more commonly raised issues with the new editor right now.
Hi @James_Jagic,
I advise using the ‘Bulk Editor’ option for your adjustments, even though Shopify made this change to better manage inventory structures. Without having to go through each variant page, it lets you input barcodes, pictures, and other information for several products on one screen.
Thanks!
