Hi @MaiseyDaisey,
I checked and the code is absolutely correct.
Can you send me information about the error? I will check it.
The message I had said that they had noticed an error on the store which affects the website in alot of ways, this errors disallowed all your products on all marking. and that the store is in danger without this being fixed.
Have you considered your being lied to by spammers, don’t give any such people access to your store or private info or credit cards numbers etc.
Re-read your posts and recognize your not providing any detail OTHER people need to know UPFRONT about what your being told by the mysterious contactee
What do they even claim is “wrong”, do they point to sources, or is it vague sounding and sinister.
Respect your time and others communicate critical detail in advance all this info should have been in the first post.
Bad communications habits are an expensive way to burn time and money and are an indicator of future business failure.
Like @PaulNewton pointed out it is most likely spammers that are trying to get access to your store “fix” something that is not broken and charge you.
If you got emails like this:
Your store’s visibility is plummeting – Your Store Is Losing Revenue By The Minute!
That is way to with sense of urgency to trick you to contact them straight away.
Your robots.txt is fine. But learn to recognize spammers/scammers, if they have Gmail account and have Shopify in name of email sender it is a spam.
Hi @MaiseyDaisey,
It was sent through gmail, can you send me their email?
Because there are a lot of spam emails like this nowadays, and most of them are scams. So you need to be careful with it.
Please let me know.
Thank you I did have my suspicions that i wasnt been told the truth. I just get so inundated on a daily basis by messages its starting to drive me insane. I run this site voluntarily for dog rescue and have so little time. All I ever wanted was for it to make a difference, but its starting to get me down, I though a shopify platform would have been better than word press, but i;m now thinking it was a bad decision. It seems shopify platform is easier to target with spam mail. I must get at least 10 messages a day either by email, shopify chat or by whatsapp!
It was on whatsapp. Its was someone I used on Fiver, stupidly, and he keeps coming up with more issues!! @idris_ademole
It may not have anything to do with any platform but poor privacy hygiene that would happen on shopify or wordpress.
When setting up the domain did you restrict/hide or setup a different email than your personal or main business day-to-day email.
Does the contact form on the store get sent to a different email for separate processing.
Is your email present as text on the website or inside forms etc etc etc.
Do you share your email anywhere that gets scraped or sold into spam lists etc etc.
I get TONS of it too but I pretty much know all the sources that happens from.
If your getting bogged down that indicates you probably need try more process thinking, than taking everything as it happens. i.e. fix your opportunity costs, automating things with shopify-flow etc etc.
Yeah the email address is on the website!
It can be annoying to setup and keep straight but having a different email between the domain, the store owner email, and what’s shown in about-us/contact-us etc pages for different reasons can help at least funnel spam to a specific account.
e.g. contact @ store.com or hello @ store.com
To have a sender mail address separate from store owner address:
settings > notifications > sender email address , See How do I change the email account behind the contact form on my website?
If you do have different addresses be aware of things like DMARC records on the domain and other things needing to be set up to avoid your own email not getting delivered or itself marked as spam.
Then there’s the actual email client or service or domain-server setup you use to manage mail.
Some are better than others at catching or letting you train it to catch spam.
Good Luck.
The said it was an error on the theme?
The said its a problem with the theme not the store?? What ever that means. Can you verify they are trying to scam me?
They have said its a problem with the theme not the store?? What ever that means. Can you verify they are trying to scam me?
Hi @MaiseyDaisey,
I’m not sure, but it’s probably a scam. Because I checked and found no errors in it.
So I don’t think you should worry too much about messages like this, especially messages via whatsapp.
Hope it is clear to you
Who said it is a theme problem? It would be great if you could share all info? Like complete message, or a few of them.
And what is an email of sender or it is just that idris guy, “Shopify Expert”. He might be from Nigeria and while there are some honest developers, on each on there are 20 scammers. So be careful.
And I do not know if you heard for Brad Pit scam. Idea was that scammers contacted women and say they are Brad Bit and after some chatting they plea for help for some health issues. And people give money even if in their mind there must be some spark it is a scam. Same here “they say it is a theme” but that sitemap have no connection to theme. But again there are other tries to scam you: " your theme is not ADA compliant" or " your performance is so low there are problems so Google will not check your website" and so on. They can sound convincing but I can say I am Brad Pit and all that would be a lie.
Like Paul said check your emails, maybe even make a few filters to automatically hide and delete those emails, block all Whatsapp that are not in your contact list…
And every site have issues or low sales and always there is a room for improvement.
You can find here a lot of topics about that. If you have time search a bit and learn as there are a lot of good tips.
Hey @MaiseyDaisey,
Thanks for Bringing this Question to Shopify community.
If a Shopify Developer that contact you from fiverr and talk about the condition of the robot.txt and the theme then you should verify it first.
No one cannot says that this is a scam. If he/she contact from fiverr then in most case he/she might be a professional and want to help with your store.
Shopify community experts cannot say to anyone a Scammer without verify it.
It’s important to spread love, positivity and help merchants not to spread hate.
