Could someone post a simple list of the current paid themes that leverage “Theme Blocks” (not Section Blocks), similar to Horizon? To my knowledge, none do yet.
Ideally, it would be great to just add this as a “Theme Feature Filter” in the Theme Store.
Thanx!
@Michael_Dragich this is a great idea though until it gets implemented I think a good path forward would be to go to the Shopify Theme Store and sort by Newest, as newer themes have a higher chance to be using Theme Blocks since this feature has been out for about a year at this point.
In case you were not aware you can click on any paid theme and click on Try theme, which installs it in your store and allows you to view it in the Theme Editor so you can confirm whether it supports Theme Blocks or not.
Some examples of themes I found while using this method that have Theme Blocks are Metro and Gario.
Thanx for sharing! As a partner and Plus Expert for ten years, definitely aware how to try themes. As a human noticing that there are now (sorta) 999+ paid themes, it makes this method of exploration highly inefficient.
Appreciate the two theme linx! Checked them out, and both seem to do what I was afraid paid themes would do, and go the path of intentionally nerfing the true power behind Theme Blocks — only supporting a very limited number of blocks, and basically no organizational level blocks like “Group” in Horizon. This is both an awful yet understandable approach, to maximize profit and proliferation of countless new themes (understandable), which has the effect of frustrating and confusing merchants and a lot of partners (awful).
Of the two, Gario seems a little more flexible, but still restrictive.
Hope someone goes for the gusto this year and actually makes a theme practically unlimited in feature set, but simultaneously simplifying the UI via clever use of the visible_if parameters. I’m trying to map out some thoughts on how to do just that.
There is a clear path to making this happen, just appears to be no will to do so . . . yet.
@Michael_Dragich Thanks for this post. I’m also surprising at how slowly theme blocks are being adopted in Premium themes. Horizon is fantastic for customizing themes without coding, but lacks some of the fancier features that ship with premium themes. Watching this thread for any updates.
You’re welcome @CooeeCommerce There’s definitely a disappointing dearth of Themes with useful and versatile Theme Blocks. Still haven’t found any worth comparing to the flexible parts of Horizon yet. Maybe they’re there now, but Shopify isn’t doing themselves any favors by listing every single preset as an individual “Theme”, which is a step towards transforming the theme store to a “Preset” store (outlined below).
Quick Prediction
By 2030 the Theme Store is either entirely wiped out by Shopify themselves via integrated AI (i.e. Sidekick that actually kicks ass) or it’s transformed into more of a “Preset” or “Skin” store, where everyone works with the exact same core framework and building blocks (effectively able to build any current feature or theme available). No need to purchase any themes ever again.
“Hey Sidekick, make me a store with a female Hawaiian digital avatar where she sells seashells on the seashore in short form videos. Bright pastel color palette. Bohemian vibes. Handwritten header font. Cool conch shell logo. Sell in the states only. Playful kitschy content. Offer engraving customization. Tell me when you’re . . . oh, you’re done? Kewl. Open.”
Ideally, the framework is free and open source, and the skin store is either dirt cheap (under > $100 per preset) or there’s some subscription option to access all skins and some level of hands on support. Perhaps it’s included on every plan except Basic. Maybe the mother-shop will do it. Maybe the open source (or OpenClaw
) community will do it. Maybe I’ll do it. Someone will.
This is the way
