Theme Update only in duplicate site

Hi Team,

I have duplicated my existing Shopify store to test out some new ideas, it is not live yet. The theme we use in the main live store is outdated. Is it possible to update the theme only in the duplicated store and not the main live one to not mess with the coding we had done in the live store?

Hi, @Aathiranair

Thanks for posting to the Community Forums.

It sounds like you have two separate Shopify accounts running, is that correct? If so, adjusting the theme in one store, but not the other, is completely fine. They will not be affected by each other as they are separate accounts.

If I am misunderstanding the situation, can you please provide more information? That will allow me to provide the correct information.

In the meantime, I would love it if you could provide your store domain so I can take a look and provide additional feedback!

Hi Skye

I have one store running but I duplicated it to try another theme. so basically one account and 2 stores (one live and the other duplicated).

Also, is it possible to see the add-on codings we have done on a Shopify store? A former colleague did some bespoke coding and we are not sure to which part of the site. This is now posing a problem to the theme upgrade since we will have to re-code it and currently do not know which area it would affect to come up with a contingency plan.

Many Thanks

Aathira

Hi, @Aathiranair

Thanks for providing more context! There is only one store, per account. It sounds like you have two themes in your store, one that is live, one that is in the theme library. Is that correct?

If so, any adjustments you make to the theme in your theme library will not affect any of the other versions of your theme. I hope that makes sense!
