Themes & updating them - why is this always a drama

Shopify Plus developers set up my site years ago recommending Pictonix.co(Focal) theme as the best to use at that time. It wasnt cheap either. My instructions to the developer at the time were to not use any customised coding so that the theme updates whould not be an issue. Nevertheless I find that when I need to update this theme I get warning message that, upon updating, there will be several ‘things’ that dont work as they ought to. Its impossible, unless youre a developer as well, to understand what and where will go wrong. As such we Shopify store owners, I supposed regardless the theme chosen, must face the cost of havng a developer to assist each time a theme upgrade is required. Its the very reason many of us left WordPress and switched to Shopify. Have you any suggestions? Perhaps a theme that doesnt glitch or come with hidden gremlins whenever updated?

Hi @divotend ,

The developer you worked with likely provided static work, which means that as soon as you update the theme, things start breaking. To avoid this issue, it’s recommended to implement dynamic sections or dynamic code. This way, updates to the theme won’t cause problems, and you’ll be able to customize the theme more easily in the future. Additionally, you can consider switching to the Dawn theme, as it is more flexible, easier to customize, and better suited for handling updates without causing issues.

Many thanks for your very informative and most useful message.
