Ongoing Issue:

  • A second user reports experiencing the identical problem for several weeks
  • Despite being told the technical team would follow up, they have received no contact
  • This user expresses frustration with Shopify’s customer support response time on what appears to be a backend technical issue only Shopify can resolve

Status: Unresolved for at least one affected user; requires direct Shopify Support intervention to disconnect domains from previous stores.

Hello! I cannot connect my domain name to my Shopify store. I just bought a domain and when i want to connect to Shopify store, there is a notif says " This domain is already connected to another Shopify store.". I already try to connect manually with DNS Record but i still can’t connect it until now. Maybe there is some mistake when i try connect manually, but i didn’t know where the mistake is. Please how can I remove the domain from the store that holds my domain? and connect the domain the one i just bought with shopify store

Thank you very much for your time and consideration!

Kind regards,

Hey, @MakeItFunn

Eunice here from Shopify, thanks for posting!

It is possible that the domain was previously used by another Shopify merchant and it’s still linked to the inactive store in our system. It’s not as tricky to fix as it sounds, all you need to do is contact Shopify Support via this link here. For the fastest support, I recommend the online chat option. The Support Advisor will be able to remove the domain from the old store so you can link it to your store. We will require various pieces of information from you in order to be able to assist, including proof that you currently own this domain so make sure you have this to hand when you contact us.

Because you’ve just purchased a domain I have a feeling your store might be fairly new! If so, congratulations and welcome! Are you getting ready to launch soon? If you are this great blog will come in handy. It’s the Shopify store launch checklist. An awesome tool to ensure you’ve completed everything necessary for a smooth launch day.

I hope this helps!

Hello @MakeItFunn ,

It is likely that the domain was once owned and connected by some other store owner on Shopify. Even though you own the domain now, Shopify recognizes that it’s still connected to another account.

Try connecting the domain under Online Store > Domains > Connect existing domain.

If you are still having issues your best option is to reach out to the support team and they’ll assist with the issue.

I hope that the above list’s tips will help you solve your query

Did you manage to resolve this?

I’m having the exact same issue. It has been weeks now that I’ve been unable to re-associate my custom domain with my store.

I was told the technical team would be in touch. They haven’t been.

Awful customer support from Shopify on a serious technical problem that’s on their side and that only they can seemingly resolve.
