Hello! I cannot connect my domain name to my Shopify store. I just bought a domain and when i want to connect to Shopify store, there is a notif says " This domain is already connected to another Shopify store.". I already try to connect manually with DNS Record but i still can’t connect it until now. Maybe there is some mistake when i try connect manually, but i didn’t know where the mistake is. Please how can I remove the domain from the store that holds my domain? and connect the domain the one i just bought with shopify store
Topic summary
Newly purchased domain cannot be connected to a Shopify store due to the message “This domain is already connected to another Shopify store.” Manual DNS setup attempts have not resolved it.
Cause and context: A Shopify advisor explains this happens when a domain remains linked to a different or closed store in Shopify’s system. The domain needs to be disassociated on Shopify’s side after ownership is verified.
Recommended actions:
- Contact Shopify Support via the Help Center, log in (or continue without logging in), choose a relevant topic (e.g., Account or Store settings), then use a support option under Get support. Live chat, email, and callback are available 24/7. Be prepared to confirm domain ownership so Support can remove the old connection.
- Technical checks: verify the domain, ensure DNS is correct (A record points correctly; CNAME/subdomain is correct), and try connecting via Online Store > Domains > Connect existing domain.
Status: No confirmed resolution yet; the issue likely requires Support to detach the domain or for DNS corrections to take effect.
Hi there, @f7ae70 !
Thank you for your post, I’m happy to provide some more information here.
When you receive this error, it means the domain you have purchased is still connected to another store in our system. There are times when a shop is removed or closed and the domain does not get disconnected as we would expect. This prevents the new owner of the domain from adding it to their own store. Not to worry, we can help! You’ll need to get in touch with our live support team and confirm your ownership of the domain. We’ll let you know what the requirements to do so are when you connect with us. When it comes to reaching out to our live Support line, I’ll provide some steps here to make it easier.
- Head over to this link: Contact Shopify Support · Shopify Help Center
- Log in (recommended) or Continue without logging in
- Select the support topic that best suits your inquiry (such as Account or Store settings)
- Scroll down to where it says Get support and select one of the available support options
We’re available 24/7 via live chat, email, and callback!
I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.

Seems like the domain was once owned and connected by some other store owner on Shopify. Even though now you own the domain, Shopify recognizes that it’s still connected to another account.
Did you verify the domain?
Make sure your A record is set up correctly. Also, check your CNAME/subdomain has the correct domain. You can find out more about how to manage your domains in this guide.
Try connecting the domain under Online Store > Domains > Connect existing domain.
If you are still having issues your best option is to reach out to the support team and they’ll assist with the issue.
