I have the same issue - in the 14 day trial with Shopify Lite - have already deleted the Store and the ePOS option s- just have Button sales channel - when I embed the HTML into my website & publish I get the same checkout issue - infact when I click on the button after designing it in the “Create a Buy Button for a website or blog” section, it pops open a new window & says the same thing ,
Topic summary
Checkout fails with the message “This store isn’t taking orders right now” (screenshot attached). Core cause identified: checkout is disabled when a store is on the Pause plan. Action: check Settings > Plans and Permissions; upgrade to Basic or higher to enable checkout.
Trial/Lite specifics:
- On trial, checkout is disabled until a plan is selected.
- For Shopify Lite (Buy Button only), remove the Online Store sales channel (Settings > Sales channels > delete Online Store) to use Lite.
- One user resolved the issue by confirming they were not collecting VAT and by explicitly selecting the plan that would start after the 14-day trial.
Open questions and unresolved items:
- Some users still see the error despite selecting Lite and using only the Buy Button.
- How to verify VAT steps and whether the error text can be changed to another language were asked but not answered.
Recommended next steps:
- Confirm plan selection and that Pause is off.
- Ensure sales channels match the intended plan (Lite = no Online Store).
- Review tax/VAT settings.
- If on Basic or plan selected and issue persists, contact Shopify Support via the Help Center.
Status: partially resolved; ongoing for some users.
