When customers add tips to their orders at checkout, the tip appears as a separate line item that doesn’t require shipping. However, unlike physical products that get fulfilled when shipped, tip line items remain “unfulfilled” even though:
-
The payment (including the tip) has already been collected
-
No fulfillment action is needed since tips are payment-only items
-
All other physical items in the order have been fulfilled and shipped
This causes orders to remain in “open” status indefinitely, cluttering the open orders view and making it difficult to identify which orders actually need attention.
Current workaround: Manually archiving orders where only tips remain unfulfilled. Not ideal.
Suggested solution: Tips should either:
-
Automatically fulfill when payment is captured (since they require no physical action), OR
-
Not prevent orders from automatically closing when all shippable items have been fulfilled
This would streamline order management for merchants who offer tipping at checkout and help keep the open orders list focused on orders that genuinely need action.
