Tips for spotting return fraud patterns + a free tool I built

Hey everyone,

I’ve been researching return fraud patterns on Shopify for the past year and
wanted to share what I’ve learned — plus a free tool for anyone who wants to
test it.

The 5 most common return abuse patterns I’ve seen:

  1. HIGH FREQUENCY RETURNERS — Customers who return 40%+ of their orders. They
look like good customers by order volume, but they’re actually costing you
    money.

  2. REASON ESCALATION — Same customer starts with “wrong size” then moves to
“defective” then “not as described.” Each reason gets harder to challenge.

  3. HOLIDAY SURGE ABUSE — Customers who only buy during sales/holidays and
    return after the promotion ends.

  4. GUEST CHECKOUT CYCLING — Same person uses guest checkout with slight email
    variations to avoid pattern detection.

  5. DOUBLE-DIP — Customer files a return AND a chargeback on the same order.
    Gets refunded twice.

The hard part isn’t knowing these exist — it’s spotting them across hundreds of
returns per month.

I built a free tool called RefundSentry that scores returns automatically and
flags these patterns. It runs inside Shopify Admin and works alongside whatever
return setup you use. Looking for merchants to test it and give feedback.

If you’re interested, reply here or email support@refundsentry.com and I’ll
set you up.

@shopmaster01 keep continue, most of the merchnant have these types of problem.
