Total Sales Not correct on multiple devices

Two year old thread has NO solutions! this problem is CURRENT last few days

anyone have any suggestions?

only analytic reports “total sales over time” appears consisstant and corect

If “Total sales over time” is the only report that looks correct, I’d start by checking whether the incorrect reports are using the same filters and definitions.

A few things that commonly cause discrepancies are:

  • Date range (order date vs. processed date)
  • Sales channel filters (Online Store, POS, Shop, etc.)
  • Order status (paid, pending, canceled, refunded)
  • Whether the report is showing gross sales, net sales, or total sales
  • Time zone differences if you’re comparing data across multiple reports

If the “Total sales over time” report consistently matches your expectations, it’s likely because it’s using a different metric or calculation than the other reports you’re comparing against.

Could you share:

  1. Which reports are showing incorrect numbers?
  2. What exactly is different (higher, lower, missing orders, etc.)?

Have you tried using an alternative app to receive accurate reports on these and have they turned out well.

I would recommend trying GoProfit and check out the reports to see if they can be helpful.

Hope this helps!!

It’s actually the home screen dashboard - total sales and orders do NOT match the orders on the order page. Orders and total are overstated and understated on the home dash board. The home dashboard report always appears to be wrong. This is true for both today and yesterday dashboard views

Thanks, that clarification helps. The key check is whether Shopify Home disagrees with the matching Analytics reports, not only whether it differs from the Orders list.

Shopify says Home metrics sync directly from Analytics. Set the same date range and sales channel, then compare:

  • Home Total sales against Analytics > Reports > Total sales over time
  • Home Orders against Analytics > Reports > Orders over time

If those pairs match, the Orders page is not an exact apples-to-apples comparison. Total sales includes discounts, sales reversals, shipping, taxes, duties, and fees. Returns, cancellations, refunds, and order edits can create adjustments on the day they are processed. Pending, unpaid, and canceled orders are included in sales reports, while test and deleted orders are not.

There is also an order-count edge case: Shopify notes that an order edited after the day it was placed can appear as a separate order in Total sales over time, even though there is still only one order in the Orders list.

If Home does not match those Analytics reports with the same filters, that is different. A short data delay could affect today’s number, but it would not be a good explanation for a mismatch that remains for yesterday. Check the Home metrics for an information, warning, or critical data icon, refresh once, and then contact Shopify Support with screenshots of Home and both reports, the selected date range and sales channel, and a few example order numbers.

Since you are seeing this for yesterday and on multiple devices, I would not treat device caching as the main explanation.

here are the two examples 1) home screen with yesterday selected (no filters I am aware of) and 2) Orders screen showing 6 orders for yesterday?

Two reconciliation points nobody has mentioned yet. Analytics, which feeds the Home cards, still counts orders you later deleted or archived, so Home can show more orders than the Orders list. The reverse happens too: test orders placed through the Bogus Gateway appear in the Orders list but are excluded from Home and reports. Order edits are another trap, since added items post as new sales on the edit date, not the order date. If none of those explain your gap, compare Home against Analytics > Reports with the same range and channel; if they differ, send Support those exact screenshots.

@ghayes54b you’ve actually done the hard part here. Multiple devices plus a mismatch that sticks around for yesterday rules out caching and same-day sync lag, so this is a definitional difference rather than a bug on one screen.

The fastest way to see it is to stop comparing Home against the Orders page, since they measure different things. Instead compare Home against Analytics > Reports > Total sales over time, and Home orders against Orders over time, using the exact same date range and channel. If those two reports match each other, Home is fine and the Orders page count is just counting something different.

From your screenshots, the usual reasons for a 6 vs different gap are one of these: an order that was edited after it was placed (it posts as a separate line on the edit date), a refund or return processed yesterday against an older order, or an order you deleted or archived that still counts in Analytics but has dropped off the Orders list.

If you’d rather see which orders are actually causing the difference instead of guessing, that’s exactly what an order level report is for. You list every order for the day with its financial status, whether it was edited or refunded, and the sales amount, and the rows causing the gap usually stand out right away. That kind of breakdown is what we built Report Pundit for. To be upfront, any reporting app reads the same order data Shopify does, so it won’t give you a different correct number. The value is in the granular reconciliation view that shows you where the delta is coming from.

If you paste the 6 order numbers and what Home is showing for the day, we’re happy to help you figure out where the difference is.
