Looking for a plan to increase traffic to my store. Can you give me some general suggestions?
Alright, so I took a look at the website mendedearth.com (assuming this is yours) and I can see some things that need updating.
The words you put on your site are so very important. Specifically your headers (h1,h2,h3)
For some reason your h1 is set to: âGoodwin Shopify Templateâ. I imagine that is the theme you used and the person that built this theme is just trying to boost their own SEO. This needs to change right away. If you need help changing your code I can walk you through it or you can give me access because this is hard coded in.
My suggestion although insanely painful to say - I would use a free Shopify theme instead of this one because if they are doing crap like this, they clearly do not care about the technical SEO. There is so much under the hood that helps with SEO that Shopify already had built in to most of their themes.
Anyways, if you do keep this theme you will want to work on keyword research. Google keyword planner and Google Trends is a great place to start. We already can build a list of keyword phrases just from know what you sell. Keep in mind these keyword phrases is just another way of saying âThis is what I think my customer is typing into google with shopping intentâ.
You want to rank these keywords by most searched and most relevant to your site. One very obvious one is âThrift Storeâ or even âConsignment Shopâ (even if you do not buy from customers) the customer is a crossover customer and is just looking for used products.
Where you need to put these keyword phrases is inside your headers and the title of your page. So instead of just âMended Earth Clothing Shop - MendedEarthâ, you want to get really specific here because of how saturated âclothing shopâ is. You will want to go with something like âMended Earth - Recycled Fashionâ This is just an example, but I would use something that is specific to people shopping for gently used clothing and do some research on how often these words are actually searched for.
For me I like to work smart though - not hard. I often start my research by breaking down what other successful companies are doing and mimic it. The first company that comes to mind is of course ThreadUp. I would research the crap out of them and see if some ideas come to mind for your own site.
There is more to unload here but it is a process and sometimes too much information can be overwhelming.
Few questions:
- Are you on Google Shopping?
- Are you on other 3rd party sites (eBay, poshâŚ)?
- Have you sprinkled your URL in other places (directories, social media, blogs, Coupon sites)?
