Hello, we would like to make use of Shopify’s user facing designs to enable our customers to shop our product and/or enable our sales staff to assist customers with complex purchases.
Payment Complications
Many of our customers pay 100% up front via credit card and the Shopify payment plan appears fine for that. The balance of our customers pay by check, wire transfer, money order; and may pay a) 100% upon checkout before fulfillment, b) a deposit on checkout followed by payment of remainder upon fulfillment, and c) a deposit followed by installment payments. While POS appears to have some capacity to handle this, it does not appear that POS uploads cash receipt data or payment status to the Shopify Store (ecommerce) nor does POS offer an aging report. The native Shopify Store does not facilitate complex payments. So, alternatives are a) accept payment offline and manually update payment status, b) download the order to an accounting software and accept payment through its payment portal (payment may not flow upstream to Shopify).
Questions:
-
How does Shopify discern whether its transaction fee (.5% to 2%) applies?
-
How do others manage complex payment scenarios?
Thanks for considering my question.
