Transferring domain to Shopify - Read the online guides - still have no clue

Hey,

I have this domain “yardenos.com” at GoDaddy, pointing to CloudFlare and hosted in Cloudways.

I’m trying to find a way to connect the domain from Godaddy, keep Cloudflare in the mix and point it to my Shopify store.

Is that possible?

I read this guide: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/os/domains/add-a-domain/using-existing-domains/connecting-domains

That explains how to connect directly from Godaddy to Shopify, but having Cloudflare in the mix is a must as far as i’m concerned.

I tried changing the A and CNAME records in Cloudflare, to point to Shopify, but it gives me this error: “This kind of record cannot be proxied (Code: 9004)”

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Best,

Yarden.

Hi @Yardenos ,

Nick here from Shopify.

Can I ask why you are wanting to keep CloudFare in the mix in this situation? You can only point the domain to one location from GoDaddy so pointing it to CloudFlare and then Shopify doesn’t possible. One way you could go about it is to transfer the domain to CloudFlare from GoDaddy and then point it to Shopify. This would need to be done in GoDaddy though and you can see their support documentation for it here.

The way you pointed out how to connect the domain the guide below is correct, but you will only be able to have it pointed from one place to Shopify, not two.

All the best, Nick

For anyone who is also stuck on the problem. I got the same error and resolved it by setting Cloudflare A Record and CNAME to use “DNS only” instead of “Proxied”.

It solved my problem, and my shopify site is now live. I’m only using Cloudflare Pro and not Cloudflare Enterprise.
