Lately I’ve been experiencing many issues with Translate and Adapt where translating products to French takes 10+ minutes each, whereas they used to take less than 2 minutes.
I have gone through similar threads and cleared my browser cache, tried refreshing during translating but nothing has worked thus far. Does anyone have any other advice or has anyone else dealt with this problem as of late and know a way to fix it.
I’d test it with one duplicated product first, ideally one with the same variants/metafields as the affected item. If the duplicate also hangs for 10+ minutes, it’s probably not a browser cache issue. If a simple product translates normally, the slowdown may be tied to heavier product data like variants, SEO fields, or metafields.
order_ops_guy’s duplicate test is the right first move to isolate it. A couple of things commonly cause exactly this jump from ~2min to 10min.
Check Settings > Languages and look at how many fields are in your translatable set. If metafields or app-injected fields got added to translation scope recently, every translate run reprocesses all of them, not just the body text, and the time per product balloons.
The other common cause is not your store at all, it is the Translate and Adapt translation queue backing up on their side under load. There is no status surfaced to you so it just looks like a hang. If the duplicated product also crawls, that points here rather than at your data.
If you are translating in bulk and just need it done, you can skip the live queue entirely: export translations to CSV, translate offline, and re-import. More setup but it does not sit waiting on the realtime service.
Is this across all products or mainly ones with lots of metafields or long descriptions?
Hello there @bcroteau
I have seen the same when store has big catalog or a lot of translation changes on queue for apply in Translate & Adapt. Instead of starting multiple translations one after another try to translate smaller batches of products and also check if you have outdated translations that can be deleted or updated. Also, doing the testing in an incognito window or a different browser profile can help rule out extension conflicts. For now, if this is only a recent occurrence, it might be worth watching the translation times over the next few days to see if it’s just a temporary slowdown in the app’s performance.
Thank you for all your messages. I’m thinking this may be an issue with the app itself as nothing was ever changed on the store side but translation processing just became longer. Additionally the app now says a single product translation may take up to an hour, whereas it used to say up to 2 minutes.
My guess as many of yours was that the app may be receiving heavy traffic and is struggling to keep up with requests.
The number of metafields being translated per product are about 10 or so, absolutely nothing that heavy. And I am never adding more than 2-3 products in the translate queue at a time. Will definitely continue to monitor the situation and see if there is anything I can do store-wise to help this issue.
