Translating metafields to another language

Hi! I have a shop on 3 languages. How can I translate metafields?

Metafields with definitions can be translated where they are used - e.g. product metafields can be translated on a product where it’s used. Metafields without definitions can be translated via the Translations CSV. Hope that helps

Hi

can you be more specific please ?

I have installed your APP Translate & Adapt. The content is translated but metafields no.

How is possible to translate metafields content from the dashboard ?

thanks in advance

Hi here, did you try exporting to the Translations CSV? Please share with me here or via DM if you prefer examples of metafields you’re not able to translate. Thanks

I use REST API. I have 2 types of product metafields:

  1. free text → is transalted

  2. some definitions only (for example “rosso”,“giallo”,“verde” - I expect to be translated as “red”,“yellow”,“green”) → not translated

peraphs your app translate the free text only ?

Hi @Servitel , I’ve looked into this - there is a limitation yes: List type metafields are not currently translatable. This is being addressed but currently this is the case, unfortunately.

Hi! Would you have any update on this please? Thank you!

Hey @brice514 , List Type metafields are now translatable. This can be done in Translate & Adapt. Any problems please let me know

Hi! Thank you for your reply.

I went through all the “Store metadata” of Translate and Adapt, but couldn’t find the metafields I use to create filters (see example below).

The URL is https://www.thebalticclub.com/fr/collections/candles

Do you think it’s possible those metafields are translatable somewhere else?

Hi! I am also interested in a solution for this. Cannot find the metafields to translate in Translate & Adapt. Any updates?

Same here, I need support on this.

Custom product metafield is not translatable, please support.

Hi! Why is there no update on this? You said that the list type metafields are now translatable while they are not. Please update.

Same here! Product meta fields must be translatable, not only the content in the field!

List type metafields are translatabe. What hasn’t been translatable to date is custom filters (i.e. what you use to filter products down), created from product metafields. As of last week the filter label can now be translated: https://shopify.dev/changelog/translate-filter-settings

However the labels themselves cannot be translated yet, that will follow soon.

E.g. in this screenshot ‘Season’ can now be translated, but ‘Autumn Winter’ cannot:

List type metafilelds are now indeed translatable with the Translate app however they render inconsistently.

Example {{product.metafields.custom.color}} EN → IT

In translate app: [“Red”,“White”] → [“Rosso”,“Bianco”]

Page output: Red and White → Rosso and Bianco

Also cannot render {{ product.metafields.custom.color | t }} because translations are missing.

Is this a but or can you advise on fix?

Thank you

Same problem here. Product meta fields should be translatable. Otherwise it is very unconsistent.

@clem_ay @WebsiteMonkey @Emily96 Can you share screenshots either here or via DM?

Ok I will try to be as precise as possible with the screenshots.

  1. My filters are based on Product metafields (Single line text - list of value)

  1. Translate and Adapt let us translate the Filter title

  1. Result is inconsistent because the title is translated but the values aren’t.

  1. Extra Hint => Most of my dynamic collections are based on Product metafield

5. So what would be the best solution?

The best would be to always use the same language to setup and input metafields value (in this example Spanish).

Then “Translate and Adapt” would offer the possibility to translate these values so that the filtering system displayed is 100% translated.

May I ask you to confirm my explanation is 100% clear on your side?

Many thanks for your help!

Clément

Thanks so much for the clarity here @clem_ay . Filter values are now translatable; since Shopify Editions. If you add translations via auto-translate, manually translating the product metafields on every product in Translate & Adapt, or in bulk via the CSV, you should see the filters 100% translated on your storefront. Let me know if it doesn’t work for you,
