Trying to Delete a tag from my system.

I uploaded some csv files the other day and accidentally added a few hundred bad tags to my storefront. I’ve re tagged my items with the correct tags, but shopify still shows the bad tags in the search bar. I want these tags completely removed from my store, how do i go about that?

Hello @Eric_Shea ,

You can try to do this:

  • Go to Shopify admin panel → Products section
  • Click edit → choose bad tags you want to remove and click “X”
  • Save and repeat

Hope this can help you.

Hi, thanks for the reply? Where is the specific edit button you’re referring to? I’m just not seeing it. Screenshots appreciated if possible.

Same. I do not see it. Trying to remove or delete wrong, duplicate and wrongly spelled tags.

I have the same issue. One of my coworkers started adding random tags to customers and orders, not realizing the ones we actually use are already saved in the system. SO, now when we go to tag a customer or order, we have multiple tags that look close but are not. For example, we want to tag a new customer with the rep, and instead of having “Rep JRC” we have “RepJRC” and “Rep JC” which are both useless, but still pop up and get selected from time to time in error. I have not found a fix in the 4 years I have been searching.

Can anyone help tell us a way to remove this garbage tags from showing up in the master list ?!?!

If you want to remove a tag from your Shopify store entirely, follow this simple process. Let’s take the “Bluetooth” tag as an example. Refer to the images for better understanding

  1. Go to Products:

    • Open your Shopify Admin and click on Products.
  2. Select All Products:

    • Select all the products.
  3. Click Bulk Edit:

    • Click the Bulk Edit button at the top right of the page.
  4. Remove the Tag:

    • Find the Tags section in the Bulk Edit view.
    • Click the X next to each “Bluetooth” tag to remove it.
  5. Save Changes:

    • Click Save to update the changes.
  6. Check If the Tag Is Gone:

    • To make sure the “Bluetooth” tag is removed from every product, go back to the Products section.
    • Click on Search and Filter (top right).
    • Choose Tagged with and select Bluetooth.
    • If any products still have the tag, remove it again by following the same process.

Once the “Bluetooth” tag has been removed from all products, it will no longer appear when adding new products.
Hope this helps. Happy Shopifying

Shahidul - you are a genius! I even chatted w your on-line support and they say it could not be done.

Works perfectly! It also works for Product Type. Thank you!!

I just went through this. You have to delete the tags from all of the products, even drafts and archives. Once the tag is not associated w any product it will go away automatically.
