Trying to update Dawn 11 to 12 but update never completes

I’m using Dawn theme and am on version 11.

I trigged an update to version 12 and got this message:

Your code changes won’t be included because one or more changes conflict with the update. After the updated theme is added to your theme library, you will be able to copy your code over or re-configure some apps.

That’s fine. So I went ahead and clicked the “Add theme to library” button.

For hours now I’ve been watching a spinning wheel with a “Copying your customizations” message. Is this normal?

I’ve updated this theme several times and received the customizations message. But the theme updated within a couple of minutes.

Anyone know what’s happening here and what I can do to complete this update?

You can download the new Dawn theme version by clicking the Add button in the Popular free themes sections below the list of your theme instead of clicking Update in the existing Dawn theme.

If I add the theme in this way, will the platform do things like copy my customizations (which is what it has said on my screen for quite a while)?

Also, if I go the route you suggest, will I get prompts in my dashboard about new versions becoming available?

It is a new, fresh theme after updating or downloading a new version of the theme. You will need to manually copy customized codes to your new theme.

Right - that’s what I thought.

I’d rather have the platform do the heavy lift of copying customizations over.

I’ve used the update function a number of times. Why isn’t this working with Dawn v12? Is this unique to my site? I have some customizations but not anything crazy.
