To create a mobile app for you Shopify store, installing a Shopify app of some sort on your store is required. It’s the only way third parties can access data from your store.

Hiring your own developers for a mobile app costs $10,000 minimum. So yeah, don’t go that route.

If you want to avoid paying a ton of money, there aren’t a ton of options, because most mobile app builders on Shopify cost $100/mo minimum, even if you don’t have the revenue to cover it. Want certain basic features? Then you’re getting up into the $300-500/mo range.
