Is it possible for two different businesses with different EINs and different Shopify accounts to use the same POS system? My daughter and I share a retail space and are hoping that we can share the same system. Maybe a situation where when she goes to ring a sale she logs in under her business and when I need to ring a sale I log into my own. Sort of like the Dunkin Donuts that’s also Baskin Robbin stores.
We are just setting up, but we have two “locations” under our POS (brick & mortar) as well as an online store. From what I can see, you can change your location but it’s not just a quick thing to click as you’d hope. First, in the admin (computer only), you have to create two locations - make sure you’re picking wording that makes it quick/easy to visually tell them apart. One of them must be the “default”. Then - in the POS app (on a tablet/ipad or phone - NOT the admin side) where you do transactions… along the bottom you have the options for HOME, ORDERS, PRODUCTS, CUSTOMERS and MORE. Select MORE - then select SETTINGS - then at the very bottom you’ll see your current location… click on that and change to the other location.
One thing to realize, however, is that your receipt will display the umbrella business’s name along the time - and the “location” under that. You can customize each location’s receipt - but can’t get rid of the banner along the top - so either put BOTH shop names in that banner or maybe the retail address?
I hope this helps! This system is SUPER confusing compared to what we were using before (Quickbooks Point of Sale) - so far we’re not enjoying this transition.
Best of luck!
Thank you for your reply! Do both your locations have different EINs? Do you mind me asking why you switched from Quickbooks POS?
No - both our numbers are the same. If you can’t enter two diff numbers (I don’t know, unfortunately) then perhaps you can treat one of the business’s like a 1099? Beyond that, I don’t know - I’m sorry!
We’re being forced off of Quickbooks POS because it’s been discontinued, along with their integrated payment processing. We could continue to use the POS… but it’s no longer supported (no more updates/support) and we’d have to find another payment processor… which would NOT be integrated. For us, adding that extra step where employees are entering the sales amount by hand into another unit is just asking for trouble!! They’d over or under charge customers regularly - and either would cause us massive headaches!!
So far, Shopify SUCKS by comparison. It’s amazing to me how much LESS functional every other POS out there is. To even get a fraction of the features & functionality, we have to put out more and more money for tons of “apps” that are buggy and don’t work right and STILL don’t offer the functionality we had before - they all seem to come with monthly fees that are astronomically out of proportion with their stand-alone worth.
Basically - just another way to nickel & dime small businesses out of whatever meager profits they might make. ![]()
Whatever you end up doing - best of luck!
Hi @elsewhere , did you ever find a better solution? We have two inventories for one POS, but have to buy the pro plan for both inventory locations and then also do that whole switching back and forth.
Would be awesome if there were an app that could sync several locations into one locations that is only accessible to the POS.
